As I said on FaceyB, this has been on my radar for a while. I think I’ll do this in 2019.

He said the '19 dates should be on the website by the end of the month or early October. I'm going to book up MC1 MC2 and MC4 soon as they are.

I'm not sure I have the hip flexibility to get my knee down. I quite often think I'm sticking my knee out only to look down and see it's only an inch away from the tank

I thought the same to be honest, but once you understand the correct body position it's easier than you think.

Also, I did some work on both bikes this weekend:

- Fitted hand guards to the KTM to keep my delicate hands out of the nasty cold wind and rain
- Refitted the Remus end can so I can be a noisy twat again
- Turned Scrappy Doo around in the garage and started to strip the front end down (again) to fit new steering head bearings.

I also realised, after 6 months of thinking, that the battery problems I was having on my track day were almost certainly reg/rec problems (starting problems, erratic display on the clocks). After being sat unused since then, it fired up immediately today so the battery itself seems fine.

I took my service bike in for a 6k service this morning, and they've loaned me this MT09



I don't think I blinked the whole way home. It does explain why everyone I see on one of these is riding like a twat though! Christ knows what an MT-10 is like.

You really ought to try an MT10, it's ludicrous. You should also try a Superduke 1290 of some flavour.

MT10 is a detuned R1 lump, isn't it? It must be fkn savage. Like an S1000R?

Yes to all of those things. I had it in Mode A which is the most stupid, with TCS on 1 (otherwise all it did was flash the TCS light in 2). It gets hard work real quick though at 80+ - just so much wind pressure. I want to take my g/f for a ride on it for added sky admiring lols.

MT09 is frisky, MT10 is that turned up to 11. I have yet to ride one sensibly for more than a mile. They do aren't a sensible purchase though, small tank and appalling range put me off mostly. 100miles to a tank if ridden remotely as intended. No good for me.

I run STD and Mode1 TCS (mode2 useless as you already realised). A mode is for gooning, STD fine for general mooching.

I've taken it back now. It was very silly, I liked it a lot. My FJR1300 service bike felt like a lorry riding back! I appreciated the screen though.

But yes I went to Norwich and back (maybe 40 miles tops) and used half a tank!

I'm taking my RT for it's 12k service on Friday, I think I'm going to ask if they can lend me an S1000R for comparison.

The 09 is a good real world motor IMO, enough poke to be fun, plenty midrange, and they appear to be ruggedly reliable.

09 is a triple, isn't it? Moto2 next year has got me thinking I need to own a triple at some point, just to complete the possible-ownerings-of-cylinder combinations up to my current maximum of 8. I'm assuming there are no 7-cylinder engines

09 is the 850 triple version of the flat plane Yam motors yeah. Triple is about the sweet spot IMO, smooth and tractable as a four but a bit of character/growl to make it feel more fun. Very tempted to chop my Suzuki in against a Street TripleR for same reasons.

I did not know it was a triple until I got home on it and looked it up - has an interesting sound when you're in the upper ranges of the revs but sounds nothing like a triple otherwise. It's a peach of an engine though, instant punch. Really nice.

Typical crappy Yam switchgear and controls let it down, but otherwise I think it's a cracking ride.
