So, recently, Musk has deliberately misinterpreted the plot of Dues Ex to push COVID conspiracy theories, has had a major outage where rate limits for tweets came up (now rumoured to be an upcoming feature - Blue, or limited tweets/DMs etc; no real evidence to back this up, also it'd kill the platform), and now he's firing people because people are getting fucking bored of him and he can't accept it.

Fucking pathetic

I've said it before and I'll say it 100 times again. He's a man-child.

The latest changes have killed it for me. having two feeds with one that'll constantly show you shit you don't want is a fucking stupid idea.

The two feeds thing started before Elon bought it but it was hidden, he got mad about it then told every to change the timeline to following only so you don't get random stuff. They've now divided it properly at least rather than having it hidden.

The old way where you could set it different ways was better.

It's no different? Why are you even bothering looking at the random 'For you' bit?

I'm more annoyed about the new 4000 character limit for blue users. RIP short concise threads.

The app loads into For you every time, I can't see a way to change it so it doesn't do that. The old way you just set it to chronological.

My suspicion is that no one will end up actually using much of the 4k limit

I suspect that the longer the post, the fewer people will engage with it (either reading it, replying, liking etc)

I wonder if they'll just die off organically, or even get much use anyway and get dropped as not having and benefits (to Twitter)

It's a curious change given Elon's desire to make money, does he really think that significant numbers would pay to have this feature?

I still think the whole point of Twitter is the short concise posts that keep threads on a single topic.

I agree

Which is why I think long posts either won't take off, or won't be of value (from an engagement perspective)

I just don't think people will want to read really long posts...

It will be like TikTok allowing 10 minute videos, I bet the number of people who have watched one never mind uploaded one is miniscule. Same with people writing / reading huge Twitter posts I expect.

we're on page 37 of this thread, it seems people are at least "interested"...

The only times I’ve been on there since he took over have been to go and read about the car crash when people post links.

I’m sure many others were doing the same which massively drove up the ‘engagement’

I ended up blocking Elon because my notifications section was rammed full of his utter nonsense.

I don’t care about any of it, but do find some of it mildly amusing.

Ok the longer posts are already pissing me off. People are no longer summarising as effectively and going a few words above the old limit. However anything past the old character limit and you have to click 'show more' so now I keep having to click something extra to finish a sentence.
It's only made to increase their bullshit 'engagement' metric so they can try to show advertisers how active it is.

Musk accidentally making twitter more secure by trying to save money on SMS termination - assuming Authenticator apps are supported etc which they seem to be.

(SMS 2FA is pretty garbage given how crap telecoms outfits are at maintaining account security - https://blog.sucuri.net/2020/01/why-2fa ... -idea.html and they are exploitable for revenue generation, guess how I know  )

There's a fair chance he'll do something blitheringly stupid before the weekend is over to make up for it though.

Basically forcing you to turn off 2-factor unless you have a way of connecting your Authenticator app - I couldn’t find a way to connect Google Authenticator and it wouldn’t let me switch SMS back on, despite the policy being mandatory only from the end of March. Bell end.
