Hooked up the laptop to the F01 to code some options:

Video in motion on the main screen
Turn tail lights on with the DRLs (my F10 did that already when I got it, dunno why this one’s different)
Turn off seatbelt warning chime (but still shows on the display)
Added digital speedo as one of the OBC functions

Probably so it isn’t chiming Away as he moves 15 silver cars out of the driveway to get it out!

I usually unclip my seatbelt when reversing onto the drive, so I can more easily twist round to see out the rear window, the warning chime is rather annoying.

Off to look at a Saab 9-3 TTid tommorow.

30 quid tax, should do high 50s on a run, 180hp/300lbft so should be acceptable for a runabout, looks cared for, has had DMF, Clutch, belts and water pump replaced so shouldn't throw any big Bill's as the TTid is a bit more reliable than the standard

Then I might sell the S60 and buy a Xantia Activa as it's what I really want and going fast in a straight line is a bit dull.

Evora passes its MOT with flying colours on its tenth year. No advisories, which is nice 8-)

All the cars I have had cancelled the seat belt chime as soon as you put them in reverse. The Merc is the first one that doesn't.

Mirrors help you see behind. I can't remember the last time I needed to twist round to reverse a car. May be it's from driving with a trailer quite a bit in my 20's?

Nor do I but when I was taught to drive that was how you were shown and that is why it is legal to reverse without a seat belt hence the chimes cancelling when in reverse.

My F01 has Xenon headlights (but not the adaptive jobbies, sadly), LED tail lights & indicators, yet strangely it has old-fashioned halogen bulbs for the angel eyes and they were looking horribly yellow.

Ebay & £6.49 got me a pair of cheapie "white" bulbs which are a lot better although still not quite a match for the Xenons. Good enough for now.

Also, the dog [1] was sitting on the passenger seat the other day, she's heavy enough to trigger the warning but as it turns out hates wearing a seatbelt.

It’s a PITA, the standard horrible yellow bulb is the only one which illuminates the eyes properly and lasts a long time. The white ones burn out quickly which depending on the location is too much of a faff to deal with regularly. LEDs will be properly white but they don’t illuminate the eyes properly, they’ll just do one side with an obvious drop in light output to the other, some shit ones flicker when you lock and unlock as they can’t dim.

I’ll see how they go. Very easy to get to on the F01 so not a big deal if I need to swap the old ones back in.

Found somewhere local to do the merc for ~£600 which I'm ok with.

Unfortunately they want to read the codes to double check the issue ( which is fair enough ) but I've been clearing them and carrying on, and can I get it to play up? Can I heck. I'll have to let the mrs take it into town as it always seems to do it when she drives it!

I bet garages get everyone who brings a car in giving a vague description and an internet diagnosis so I can understand their position, but at the same time I'd hope the information I've given including screenshots of the codes would give them a bit of confidence that I wasn't a typical billy bullshitter. Or maybe I am the worst kind and don't realise it 😂

That’s what annoys me about independents, mine charge £40 to read codes but they charge it even if you tell them the codes. Pretty sure I found the code reader for £20 5 years ago and it takes a minute to check and always has the same codes as their one so paying double the price of one for each check doesn’t sit right with me
In fact it caused me to go BMW for an oil change last time as that annoyance swayed me.
