I'm all good for WFH (and have been for a couple of years) but if/when schools and nurseries close I'm going to be able to do about 10% of the work I usually do. Maybe 20-30% if I spend every evening working.
Oldest is in reception so it's not like I can tell them to just bugger off and do their homework for a couple of hours. Wife isn't frontline NHS but needs to be on their network to get the data she needs so has to go into the office for that.
Ours is in Kindergarten so one down from reception. I think I managed 2hrs work this morning before he got bored and started making trouble. Going to be lots more evening working I think.
That said, we're still unknown as to how this is going to affect the development sector. A key part of our evidence base is traffic surveys - few Authorities likely to accept any surveys undertaken until thinkgs return to normal, so this could grind a lot of the development planning sector to a halt. It shouldn't make a difference to strategic planning and anything post-planning. But developers are likely to start winding a lots of schemes down I reckon as they struggle to maintain income from sales and also struggle with staffing.

Does heighten just how precarious the status quo is, doesn’t it!

Many good quality London restaurants have begun putting their staff on zero hours contracts or offering redundancy.
My brother-in-law was one of these today, and is events management/restaurant manager level, so it’s not just the waiters and low end kitchen staff.
Jose Pizarro (Spanish chef on tv a bit) lives opposite us and has the right idea and is busy turning his main restaurant into a wine shop/grocery/takeaway today in the hope that it props the business up and keeps some staff employed.
Hilton hotels are offering redundancy ahead of staff cuts - one in Birmingham is down to only 3% occupancy

Many of our local restaurants are switching to takeaway/delivery services. For people like us who don't get as much chance these days to eat out they'll probably start to get more business from us!

Feck ordering takeaway, how do you trust the chef not being infected.

all GCSE and A-Level exams cancelled - I have a pile of chemistry mock papers that year 11 did this morning, they're scheduled for a maths calculator paper tomorrow and another science (Biology i think) mock exam on friday, wondering whether its worth marking these tonight or whether we have enough grades already to go on to satisfy OFQUAL enough to award those based on prior performance - although there are always those slackers that leave it until the last moment. They are now fucked as they'll be 2-3 grades below where they need to be under normal circumstances but i expect colleges etc will offer places anyway!
Am still expected to provide online work for other yeargroups though and will do so, had a whole bunch of google classroom training this week and last week to get everyone up to speed on that - luckily i've been building a resources bank of powerpoints and worksheets for years and years so can do that with minimal fuss!

I'm thinking not. But if you live with your parents you may be ok.... boomer.
Seriously I see my business not getting any revenue in any time soon. For you guys out there I do worry.

Yep, one of the best restaurants in town has started doing deliveries. I suspect the demand will be so high they'll continue once this is over.

Heard that, too. Someone I know claims to have been told by someone who works in government.
