Do you think Rich considers the Daily Mail to be a primary source of info?
RichB considers nothing over his overly inflated opinion which may turn out to be wrong, again.

Do you think anyone with an IQ greater than 80 considers the Daily Mail to be a primary source of info?
Fixed that for you.

I consider actual facts rather than reading the Daily Mail. As it stands right now, the roadmap advertised is still in place until we are specifically told it is not.

I asked a simple question.
I'm sure other news outlets are saying something different? The Guardian you read?

I can't be certain, but I don't think anyone from the cabinet reads/posts on here, so you'll just have to wait for a statement from the cabinet to tell you if there's any intention to change the current plan.

Presumably you mean "time will tell."
You'd sound pretty silly saying "A time will tell one."

The Daily Mail are saying something different now
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/articl ... cking.html
"Boris insists evidence on the Indian variant is not yet 'conclusive' as he bids to quell huge backlash after ministers admitted local lockdowns ARE back on the cards"

1. The evidence isnāt conclusive and we need more time to work out the Indian variant impact.
2. June 21st was always an āearliest possibleā and āto be confirmedā date.
John Burn-Murdoch is good on this
https://twitter.com/jburnmurdoch/statu ... 98755?s=21
Basically it all looks quite bad but it might be that the āgrowthā we saw is just imported cases being discovered and it is peaking now.
Weāll know more next week I think.

But to be clear - what you are referring to as inconclusive is only evidence of increased transmission and a reversal of the downward trend of infections.
There (so far as I'm aware), is NO evidence that this variant renders the current vaccines ineffective or will lead to an increase in serious cases or deaths, outside of concerns re vaccine hesitancy among vulnerable groups in certain communities presenting a localised (political and public health) issue?
So still no good basis to revert to a general lockdown/delay lifting of remaining restrictions any further.

It's the piss poor organisation by the government fuelling these rumours and the tabloids are lapping it up.
So far we have Boris saying just earlier that there is "nothing conclusive on changing roadmap."
This has been followed by his official spokesperson saying that they're not ruling out local lockdowns.
And finally we got the caveat that they don't really know what's going to happen as it's "too early to speculate" and they need to see what happens in the next few days.

@ZedLeg Yes - they will know more about some variables which are not of significant concern.
John Burn-Murdoch's final two tweets in that thread were the only bits you need to read - essentially "more heat than light" and "what really matters is whether more people are getting sick and hospitalised, not the number or % of B.1.617.2 sequences".
Its of scientific importance, but not a public health issue. People need to calm down about variants until there is evidence of them infecting and rendering seriously ill people who have been vaccinated.

Bang on. Unfortunately the country has mainly turned into a bunch of bedwetters protecting their new normal.

It's not really counter productive though is it if it gets certain communities worried that they might not get full restriction removal unless they get vaccinated. To allow the stories to simmer along nicely keeps up the pressure and from at least one source I saw there were long queues outside vaccine centres in these areas creating a sense of well it must be OK/peer pressure too. Maybe the desired result is being achieved by letting things alone rather than trying to kill it quickly. One final push before they stick to the roadmap and open up fully (as the country needs to get productive again to pay back the borrowed billions).

So very much this. Although I'd be interested to know how many of those queuing for vaccines in these hot spots are actually from the area, and how many are actually hearing about there being tons of spare vaccine kicking about that needs using up and taking the opportunity to get over there.
