It’s time for another forum cycle/vehicle disagreement

I bet the cyclist was doing an FTP test or similar. Basically meaning that they need to go flat out for 20-30 minutes to find their average heart rate at that intensity.

There are loads of club/amateur cyclists and runners who race regularly and need to train on public roads, because we're not pro athletes with a rich sponsor who can rent a private track or sports lab to do these kinds of tests. The cyclist in this case choose a very suitable piece of road to do that training - fast and outside of the town. Cyclists and runners need to be able to go flat out on public roads.

While the woman is partially responsible for the accident, for not seeing him coming, the cyclist contributed by simply not being aware. Ironcially, they were both thinking making exactly the same assumption "This lane is at a standstill hence it's safe". Usual story, everyone needs to be more aware.

Dave's story reminds me of a news piece a few years ago where a guy in his 50s doing a time trial - a proper organised race - had his head down flat out, wasn't looking and went straight into the back of stationary a car at around 30mph. Died at the scene, very sad.

I think something similar happened around Yedingham in north yorks where they do races on the road between scarborough and malton, a good few years back.

We don’t have a video to over-analyse but based on Simon’s description, the woman was not partially but wholly at fault. You could say the cyclist could have avoided it by being in Devon on the day or by bunny hopping over her but responsibility for negligence lies with the driver.

As I understand it - this is 2-way single-carriageway, hence I am not sure the cyclist is filtering so much as overtaking. Driver clearly at fault for moving without checking the coast was clear, but cyclist also at fault for overtaking whilst approaching a junction and failing to check it was clear.

I'll filter if its appropriate, where there's the most space, on the near or offside, but I'll adjust my speed before doing it and be paying attention to what cars are up to or likely to do. I'll back off and rejoin the queue if need be - just comes back to everyone paying attention to what's going on and treating everyone with some respect.

Wife and I were talking about this in the car today. My final contribution to it... Remember, this part of the road is now a residential area. Houses/pavements on both sides, 30 limit. What if instead of a car pulling out it was a pedestrian crossing the road? Then the cyclist would've gone from being the vulnerable one in the accident.

Anyway, luckily he seemed relatively unscathed, as he was able to stand up straight away and collect his bike from the road.

A cyclist was prosecuted for going super-fast in a bike lane near here and hitting a pedestrian causing major injuries. So yeah, it can go the other way.

Nope, it was just a dude who was steaming along the cycle superhighway. They caught him via CCTV footage.

Pulled up outside a job today in the van, shortly after a guy on a road bike came past, you know the ones, full spandex, expensive shoes, huge chip on shoulder visible from space

He knew I was still in the van and I could see him go full Jeremy Vine as he approached the van- he was gagging for me to open the door on him, so much so the dozy twat rode that close to the van he only missed my wing mirror by about half an inch
