I'm intrigued at how you think this would have played out if there were no global response at at, let it run its course if you will. I'm guessing there'd be plenty of people still saying "well, it's only a 25% chance of dying if you catch it"

As it is most countries with high numbers have tried their best to control numbers with various strategies, border closures, lockdowns etc. yet we’re still seeing multiple evolutions of the virus with all these variants- without controls in place they could spread like wildfire and start to cause major problems with younger generations rather than just the elders, so I feel the global response has been appropriate, even if it has been delayed and started late in some cases

Hmm.

There isn't/wasn't any easy choice - we all saw it rip through those densely packed cruise ships at the beginning in no time, then we saw the same when it hit the italian villages. If it had carried on being allowed to spread as quickly as that everywhere then we'd be having very different conversations now.

I'm sure lots of things could have been done differently, but plenty of people are idiots who wouldn't follow less harsh rules unfortunately.

I would have told the people most likely to die to stay at home. The rest of the population to keep away from them. That's it. Pretty simple.

I remember the Italian hospital footage and being horrified. Looks like they forgotten / moved past that quickly

I remember the northern Italy footage with the caveat that their healthcare in the north is as good as if not better than the NHS so the U.K. should take things more seriously. I’m pretty certain we never got to the point where everything got so overwhelmed though.

We didn’t because we were a couple of weeks behind Italy and could see what was happening.

Came pretty close in the south on the first wave. The bigger post Christmas wave was more evenly spread around the country and again came close in a few areas but never got to the point where doctors were having to decide who got treatment and who didn’t.

Travel Query - still hoping to get a refund back on flights to Barcelona (themselves re-arranged from Gran Canaria last summer)

When we booked the flights, our Return flight was around 16:00 on Wednesday July 2nd. The flight has been rescheduled a few times and has got later and later and today, I was informed that it is now 07:10 on Thursday July 3rd.

As the flight is now on a different day, is there grounds for a refund or a better change of a Travel Insurance / Credit Card Claim ?

Edit - EasyJet allowed a refund request. Money due in 7 days
