Thanks, enjoyed the first couple of episodes of that. Even the completely non-gamer other half had a laugh.
Earth from Space was good but I really want less cutting to the ground cameras, especially the awesome Shaolin demo.

Caught up with the last couple over the weekend and it's getting better. The plot with Spock and the Red Angel is pretty interesting.
I was about to say that they should do a spin off of this "section 31", but google suggests that they already are!
Did you finish this Zed? I thought it came good again in the end. Lots of potential for future series too.

Aye, quite enjoyed the end. Was a clever way for them to continue the series without having to work around the timeline of the other shows as well.
I’d quite like them to do a pre Kirk Star Trek with the Pike and Spock from that show but it’s probably unlikely.
We’ve been watching the new American Gods, definitely lacking something compared to the first series but still enjoyable enough.

It's fvcking scary that if you weren't told/didn't know otherwise, it would seem like the stuff of movies/TV - the sort of story you might watch thinking the real world can't possibly be
quite so like it!
Thankfully it turns out Line of Duty fairly fantastical.

Gob well and truly smacked by the latest episode of GoT The Battle of Winterfell was incredible, no idea how they'll top it in the last three episodes to finish the saga.

Why are people so vocals about having never watched that? I see it all over the place. There’s tons of shows I’ve never watched but I don’t go around butting into conversations telling people I’ve not seen what they’re talking about. Odd.
Anyway, agreed Ep3 was intense. Only 6 smooshed though. We’ve been talking about watching the whole thing from the beginning again after, as it’s been on over so many years I’ve half forgotten who is pissed off for who for what reason :p

It was more an observation / criticism of me really more than anything else. I know it's good, and the other half has been bugging me recently to get hold of it to watch it. I just know that it's a huge time commitment to get through to where the show is now from the start so I don't know when I'm gonna have the time...
Plus I'm in the middle of Billions, which continues to be awesome.

I thought it was average, a 7/10 tops, and thats generous. Spoiler alert, but there were so many poor writing choices - not to mention the appalling lighting. Yes, it was for "atmosphere" but throw in dark scenes, loads of camera shake and quick cuts and it stops being atmospheric and just becomes unwatchable.
Not to mention:
1. The Dothraki charging off into the darkness. I believe it was mentioned in the post-episode discussion that they were overly cocky and ran off to their deaths and couldn't wait - but for the love of god write that in, because as it stood it just looked like shitty orders
2. Talking of shitty orders, who the fuck planned that defence? Wasted cavalry, pointless ununsed trebuchets, dragons barely used until it was too late. At least the older battles had some semblance of basic tactics.
3. Have I mentioned how dark it was?
4. Killing the giant. "Hey, let me pick you up and look at you up close with my good eye.....*poke* Argh! My good eye!"
5. Guys, let me just do this OTT heroic act before dying. Jorah gets a pass because he's the fucking don.
6. Plot armour. Jesus fucking christ, let some people die. I don't care how good you are, you're not getting a 500-pile-on-Whitewalker wave and living. Jamie only has one hand, FFS. Neither Jamie, nor Brienne or Sam Tarly should have lived past about 30 minutes, but hey, plot armour.
7. Ayra. Unable to get past 4 shamblers in the library, then gets past 500 walkers and various generals because convenience.
8. 8 seasons. Winters Coming, quick stab, and poof - it's all over. Massive anticlimax.
9. Ironside Bran. I hope they've got something magic planned because right now, he's just rolling exposition.
So yeah, that's what's wrong

I probably agree with all of that, it was still great! It didn’t top the battle of the bastards though for me, but I think a lot of that was because of the lighting.

Turn your hall lights off! I watched it in the dark as it was clearly going to be a mole black episode, and didn’t have any issue seeing what was going on.

I've heard a lot of complaints about the lighting of GoT Ep3 after I saw it. Fortunately I watched it on a TV left in Dynamic picture mode which meant everything was far brighter and saturated, the downside being occasionally some ugly artifacts and colour banding. I set the TV to standard and watched part of it again and yes I'd been pretty disappointed as well.
As to the plot, well I'd read some excellent speculation on what might happen and had a few cool ideas myself, when I'm a writer for a mega budget fantasy series I'll put them on screen.
Battle of the bastards was good but for me nothing has yet topped the battle of Hardhome.

+They're crazyarse charge n die fighters who've had their not-swords set ablaze in an epic moment of epicness, of course they're gonna charge! IT WAS AWESOME!

+The positioning of the artillery did look useless, but then again they're not much use against a moving hoard of mindless enemy. The dragons were actually in the battle within the first 10min although their planned goal was to kill the NK's zombie dragon, which they did and survived. Two dragons is going to count for a lot versus conventional armies to come.
3. Have I mentioned how dark it was?
+agreed, dynamic or movie TV picture modes help as does dark room.

+see almost every other TV series ever, but partially agree, the Bericade was kinda funny though.

+Errrr she did get past the hyper alert zombies in the silent library, what's your problem? The generals were useless but if you'd have had as cushy a job as them for the last ten millennia youd've probably lost your edge too.

+slight anti-climax, although the Dothraki, the Unsullied and the Northern armies are all basically gone now. will wait to see what happens. If they arse pull some huge reinforcements from somewhere next week I'll be annoyed.
9. Ironside Bran. I hope they've got something magic planned because right now, he's just rolling exposition.
+times a million, maybe he was orchestrating the battle/assassination via the warged ravens, maybe he was on netflix.

I thought it was tremendous. And yes, as discussed the plot may not be perfect but what an incredible 1hr20 of TV. And yes, it was too dark. My TV struggled at times TBH. Can't wait to see what's coming up as we head to the finalé.
