This is where I get annoyed at all the people posting in the cyclists favour- fuck what the Highway Code says, try driving a van in real life- at the angle that van is pointing that cyclist is not in the vans side window or mirrors at all. He’s fully in the vans blind spot and not respecting that in any way shape or form

Yes the van driver hit and mounted the kerb, yes he should have allowed you through first, but for fucks sake screw your priority high horse and look after yourself before shoving yourself into a lethal situation

That reminds me. Rush hour earlier today I had a fat cyclist on a hired ebike pull up next to me at the traffic lights, we pull away and it’s one of the wider 3 roads on London’s embankment so as I’m alongside him I see him falling towards me and just jerk the wheel instinctively so I move into lane 3 just as he wipes out. Lucky there was no car in lane 3 - didn’t even have time to look.
I just didn’t want to kill an idiot by accident and end with years of my life wasted because of it!

People like that have a sadomasochistic desire to be 'right' over their own safety. I just don't get it. It always gives the energy of someone who needs to get a divorce, or get laid, or both.

In that situation my mind would think "I should have right of way here, but the van is obviously going to take that left and cut me off, ohhhh what's for dinner? I'll hang back, give him loads of space and let him get around the corner safely, I could also pop into Lidl on the way home."

That was either completely intentional for the cameras, or woefully incompetent in terms of observational / cycling skills. Trouble is - stoopids believe the bullshit analysis that they are fed.

Mr Vile is at it again too. I hesitate to post his vids, but they are invariably absolute bullshit.

Not one of the vehicles in this video is parked, and he appears to be on a mission to force bin-men and delivery drivers (people on foot - ie pedestrians - ie the most vulnerable of road users) to stop somewhere other than the side of the road and increase the risks they face performing their jobs.

Are cycles not required to wait for pedestrians to clear a zebra crossing, as he does this twice in a mile?

Like he gives a fuck about the law unless it suits him.

I witnessed an actual car/cycle crash today. Bit hard to explain, but...

There's a long road that skirts the runway and goes around the town. A few cars, including myself, passed this cyclist on the long straight way. He was head down and powering along. Making good pace on this NSL stretch. The road further up turns to a 40 then 30 in the residential bit. There were some roadworks so we all came to a stop at the temporary traffic lights. I was just past a T-junction and the car behind me pulled up a few metres back to keep the junction entrance and exit clear. All fine.

I remember thinking 'if we're stopped here for more than 30 seconds or so then the cyclist will catch and pass us'.

Also, in my rear view mirror a Focus was trying to exit the side road in the gap, turning to her right. Obviously she was able to proceed straight across our lane as we weren't moving, but then she was inching forward trying to work out when the traffic coming the other way (which was on their green light at the time) would break. So she was only looking left all this time.

Sure enough the cyclist quickly appeared in my drivers door mirror and I could see him a handful of cars back, filtering quickly down the centre of the road past the queueing cars, head down, still giving it the full Wiggins. The women pulling out in the Focus clearly never saw him as she was only concerned about looking left at this point, looking for a gap. Unfortunately she got the courage to go at the exact second that bikey was passing the front of her car, and she caught him good, sending him up onto her bonnet and his bike onto the ground.

Luckily he got straight up and was able to walk over to the roadside to remonstrate with the driver.

Clearly it was her fault, no question about that, but one does wonder where his self-preservation was. He had no observation skills at all. He was still seemingly intent on going full power, head down, down the middle of the road, and didn't slow to consider the possibility of a hazard in the gap we'd left at the t-junction. Not victim blaming. She caused the accident, but he could certainly have avoided it. By the time she finally got the courage to 'go' the nose of her car was practically in the other lane and clearly visible to everyone.

Maybe the cyclist didn’t realise she’d choose that exact moment to go when she’d been visible and waiting all that time? Pulling out into the path of someone you haven’t seen because you haven’t bothered doing a lifesaver check - be it bike, car, motorbike or whatever - is utterly unforgivable.

It’s a situation which happens hundreds of times a day, surely when filtering or overtaking you need to be mindful of those around you. If you didn’t clock the woman noticing you then you wait till she has before proceeding or slow down accordingly.

When I was working up in St Helens they had a lot of roads closed due to a cycle race. Before and after people would practice on the routes.

A guy going hell for leather rear ended a broken down tractor unit as his main focus was on head down, must get a quicker time, ridiculous.
