Best part of having an electric car is trying to use all the battery so you get home with less than 5% as the cost of recharging is so negligible. That said I still see 95% of electric cars on the motorway going about 10 mph below the speed limit - how tight can you get ffs!

Aye. If it was something like that that was done it's an oddity as to why, but if it was little shits being little shits there'll be no reason (for their existence). A vehicle that doesn't stand out parked in a line of other vehicles and it's the only one that something happens to...I'm not paranoid (and I wouldn't want anything to happen to a neighbour's car) but why can't some good luck come like that instead?



In other news, a couple of weeks back I stayed off the meds (non-drowsy antihistamines that made me comatose) and took the A2 out for a scoot. It hadn't been used for a couple of weeks, the weeks when it rained continuously, and it looks like it's got a leaky windscreen now; much moisture inside, drying out needed. Dry weather at the start it ended up pouring down of course, but during a stop at a services it unexpectedly stopped raining and the sun even came out, so...910 miles, the Lake District, and 47mpg later I arrived back home. It started raining as I walked from the car to the house.

I'm more surprised at that super duper cheapy payments and deposit. As a commuter car with the odd intercity jaunt, that strikes as a rather better proposition than a shitty Vauxhall Viva or a Ka or something french.

The BIK change is only for EVs registered from the date it comes in, presumably 6 April 2020. Irritating because it means you can't buy a 2yr old Tesla Model S and benefit from the low BIK, which was my intention for a while.

I'm paying £1800 then 23x£226. Any car will lose £1800 in two years, my fuel and tax currently costs me @£100/month so for £126 I get a new car for two years, with minimal running costs and full warranty. Easy decision really.

And nothing stopping me getting something fun alongside if I feel the need.

Nice one Barry, I signed up for an eGolf in between the silly cheap early Ioniq deals and the later ones coming along. Given the choice (and if my Mrs wasn't so keen on Golfs) I'd probably have given the Ioniq a go on balance.

After posting about how much electric running we've had, the GTE this morning flashed up "Engine must be run for a long time" (??) and so did nursery and school runs this morning with the engine running. Think it's been 7 or 8 weeks since it started so it must want to run it to keep things ticking over.

That's a shame, but the BIK change should cause a surge in BEV purchases restricting supply even more, which should be good for residuals

Thats not my understanding. If the car has Zero CO2 it can be registered prior to 6/4/2020, my colleague has bought a Tesla M3 through his company on the basis of that. He'll be gutted if that's not the case.

Not good news! The ecu has been taking a bath.

They've drained it but it's not happy - getting hot and a few terminals are corroding. So, £1,200+ from BMW for a new one, or £450 to get it either repaired/refurbed or replaced with a used one (with all stored info/data transferred over).

Not sure how water has got in down there as it's all fairly closed off

Ah, you have revived my interest then! I did some cursory research when thinking about it and found the unhelpful info I repeated above. It appears you’re right which will be nicely relevant to me - sadly only from around July not April but still worthwhile. I’ll get back to thinking about model Ss.

Galaxy finally back home after five weeks. They had a file half an inch thick on all the stuff they'd done.

Compared to the Focus it feels gargantuan and slow. Clutch and steering much heavier, but it is also far quieter and more refined to drive, even with 90k miles old suspension it rides smoother and more comfortably. Eldest wants the Focus back as he's once again relegated to the back seat with his siblings, no ability to mess with the radio, vents, or do up his own seat belt.

I've got the 2yr itch and decided to have a change, my kids are getting bigger and with a second dog on its way ideally it needs to be 5 door.

My mate has had a Tesla Model 3 Performance for a few weeks and it make great financial sense, it's rapid and practical but there's something missing.

The roads aren't great here but it's stiff, stiff platform , stiffly sprung and on rubber band 20" tyres. I'm sure it works on a smooth motorway or on track but it makes my M2 feel comfy and composed on typical Welsh A Roads. Stiff to the point that my mate has bought aftermarket 18's to try and he is not the sort of person who would normally even buy tyres outside the main dealer network.

I've also never had an Automatic car and I'm not sure if a new 300+bhp 5dr Manual car is available on sale anymore so struggling really for ideas.
