Took advantage of some dry weather and my sister entertaining the kids to put the tank guard back on the Fabia this afternoon, ahead of the Rushmoor Targa Rally in a couple of weeks. Jacked up front and rear. Six bolts - but a bit of a struggle as it was too heavy to lift and bolt in at the same time. I finally managed to raise it under the car on a couple of spare alloys and then kept adding a few spare kitchen tiles stacked up each side until it was high enough to bolt in.

Ok so a week off and first day back it decides to start missing 1mi from home. Crawl it back amd then spend 30mins finally replacing coils on 3-6 that I'd not yet done. All fine again.

Until I was almost at work and after turning a corner the PAS goes again, no throttle either. So definitely not misfire related this time as it was humming away smoothly in the background. It's going in Wed for the misfire to be looked at (suspect cam cover gasket) so I'll have to get them to see if they can trace this other issue. I'll check codes again tonight as I cleared them earlier after doing the coils.

Fingers crossed they can resolve it. My search will be restarting tho. 650i GC or XFR(S)

I've always wanted one. The only reason the Jag is an option is because of that filthy sounding V8. Heart is definitely with the 650i, in spite of the N63.

There is one problem with the GC, which may yet scupper me getting one - its size. I need to check whether it will fit on the drive with the Superb, and leave enough room to actually get out. And then there's the crap spaces at our office - the 3 is wearing the signs of narrower than standard spaces, with chips in the door handles on both sides. The neighbouring space is used by someone the size of a blue whale, and I've only managed to stem the damage by parking practically door-to-door with my colleague on the other side.

If I do get one I might have to consider film on the door handles at the very least.

Ticked over 10k miles in the Golf GTE. Still really good, still doing silly numbers like this:

Submitted my application for a Hyundai ioniq premium EV today, delivery Feb '20.

38kwh 134hp model with claimed 190 range, which means realistic 150 without worrying about it/winter range. Purely PCH for two years. Cheap deal on drive-electric that I couldn't ignore.

I am toying with keeping the Civic but the annual costs Vs times I'll actually use it don't stack up well. I could hire a sporty car for these odd weekend and still save money I think.

Anyone want a 100k mile Civic in February?

As with Broccers' thread, the majority of my driving is tedious and frustrating, this will cover that. The rest will be motorcycling or hire cars..

I was tempted by the Ioniq deals that are doing the rounds, but it wouldn't be a big upgrade from the Zoe really. e208 looks pretty good but will wait to see what discounts are around in a year or two. The thought of paying list for a Peugeot

I saw a deal on those that I missed out on. £750 + 17 * £90, 8000 miles pa.

Close enough Nathan, slightly cheaper fee but semantics.

2yr lease hire, £236/mth and nothing to really worry about, ideal daily runabout but enough range to cover all my medium range trips too. I'll hire fun/petrol for other things. And I still have bikes for my general fun stuff of course.

A short lease suits me too, as I expect the competition to hot up nicely in the next few years. I like the e208 too Jon.

Not tempted by the Honda E Barry?

I like it but smaller car, crap range and I really cannot see them being £200/month for some time. I considered the Zoe 52kwh for the range but it's still a small car and I want *some* practicality.

Interesting choice, Baz. Probably spot on for what you use a car for these days.

This is not a heart purchase as I'm sure you realise, it's just a relatively cheap way of getting into a vehicular appliance that'll get me to shops/work/family with minimal fuss. I looked at interesting 2nd hand cars, most have ongoing issues that could hurt the wallet (Boxsters, VAG TFSI)

I fully intend to hire track cars or maybe a fun rental for next years Scotland trip, but my daily grind is really just that..

You’ve got the bikes for the interesting stuff plus bikes are still useable on our crowded roads.

Precisely why I'm not crying just yet, bikes are the majority of my fun these days, and I might yet still get a second cheap car.

I couldn't ever drive one no matter how good they are because there's a taxi driver who lives down our road who's got one and crawls along everywhere at 25mph. Everyone in the village takes alternative routes if they find themselves behind the Cnut

My dad has a current model and is similarly frustrating, he'll set cruise on the motorway at 55mph and sit with all the trucks. I refuse to go any distance with him

This one I've requested has enough range for most of my journeys that I can drive "normally" without concern, and I plan on doing so!

There are hybrid versions of these btw, with pitiful electric range, I'm willing to bet he's trying to eek out max range from the tiny battery
