Yeah, there seems to be a slow realisation that there's going to need to be something done to prop up the economy. I've even seen a couple of articles saying the government should consider paying everyone of working age a £1000 a salary over the next few months to keep the country afloat.
Cheers,
Mike.

I think this is going to show that a lot of the time when companies and governments have said they can’t do something they mean’t the don’t want to do it.
It’s already happening in the US to some degree.

Think you're confusing temporary assistance (which still may effectively bankrupt the country) with a permanent structural expansion of the welfare state.ZedLeg wrote: Tue Mar 17, 2020 2:59 pm I think this is going to show that a lot of the time when companies and governments have said they can’t do something they mean’t the don’t want to do it.

Absolutely Mike. I'm sure lots of our posters have no mortgage or massive debts. For those that do it's looking really badAscender wrote: Tue Mar 17, 2020 2:42 pmYeah, there seems to be a slow realisation that there's going to need to be something done to prop up the economy. yes, only banking, big business etc can have the benefits of socialism. If bailing out the banks is possible and subsidising big business through top up benefits then I cannot see why helping out the people at the bottom of the pile is always impossible. Always money for bombs and fucking brexshit adverts and info and planning consultants etc.GG. wrote: Tue Mar 17, 2020 3:25 pmThink you're confusing temporary assistance (which still may effectively bankrupt the country) with a permanent structural expansion of the welfare state.ZedLeg wrote: Tue Mar 17, 2020 2:59 pm I think this is going to show that a lot of the time when companies and governments have said they can’t do something they mean’t the don’t want to do it.

Amazon will take things from third party vendors, and package them up for selling, etc.

"We are temporarily prioritising household staples, medical supplies and other high-demand products coming into our fulfilment centres so we can more quickly receive, restock, and ship these products to customers," an Amazon spokesperson told the Independent.

Similar boat, although I'm just as angry at senior management and HR who waited until week before last to actually make up their minds. They did of course bodge it and hope the contractors would be afraid of walking. Ironically without the outside IR35 allowances I might as well walk.Ascender wrote: Tue Mar 17, 2020 1:35 pmYup. No changes to car plans. Because other than a bit of very minor tinkering, I have no car plans![]()
I've just started with a new client and I'm basically on a zero hours contract, albeit one that pays more money that the ones you get in JD Sports.

So 20,000 deaths will be a good outcome. Reckon funeral director must be a good career choice right now.
How about not having a sig at all?

Invest in companies which make nappies and baby products too, there might be a bit of a boom in 9 months or so with everyone forced to stay at home and make their own entertainment.
Either that or divorce rates will be through the roof!

Without wishing to sound like I’m panicking (I’m not), economically, it’s going to be a fucking bloodbath. If we avoid a full-on depression rather than just a recession, I’ll be amazed.
If the Coronavirus doesn’t kill you, the next 20 years of austerity might.

We got a letter through the door from my neighbours 4 doors down offering support. I'm only 46
Nice though and it's how people are thinking.
As for the economy... who knows.

Our local FB group is maintaining a list of those willing to help those that are self-isolating. I haven’t signed up.Broccers wrote: Tue Mar 17, 2020 6:49 pm We got a letter through the door from my neighbours 4 doors down offering support. I'm only 46![]()

We've had a slip through the door with local volunteer details on. Lots of older folk on our street though so it's nice to see

Do you wonder if they licked each leaflet before they posted it through your door?

I had to go tell my downstairs neighbour to shut up at 3am and he just shouted an apology through the door rather than coming out to pointlessly square up to me. Got to love that social distancing

What struck me more was that they'd handwritten each one rather than photocopying one with their details on. Saw the same on the news last night
