I sent my 405 into a
dyke and afterwards the same down an embankment after making a particularly big mess of some LOO.
Dave!
Was she ok afterwards?

Bad luck Richard, hope you get the finance stuff sorted. I don't see many of them around where I live or work, I'm guessing Fiat are struggling to shift these? Still not a fan of the looks.
I've never spun my cars on public roads but once unintentionally drifted the m235i in the snow

Cheers
And they aren’t struggling to sell them anymore, because they’ve been pulled from sale in the U.K.

Would you have replaced it with another one, if they still did offer them?
I get the impression that 99.999999% of Fiat sales in the UK are of the 500 these days. Nothing else gets much of a look in, so a bit of a shame, but not really that much of a surprise.

I wouldn’t have. I was 13 months into a 24 month lease and would have liked to enjoy the last year of the lease though.

It's amazing how long the 500 has lasted, bearing in mind the 2nd gen Ford Ka was a platform-sharer and that died quite a few years ago. Being so reliant on a car which is a decade plus old is both terrible and almost certainly terribly profitable, since the original development costs would have been recouped many years ago.

It's what fiat seem to like doing. The grande punto came put in 2005 and went through two facelifts / name changed and only died a couple of years ago. The mito on the same platform was only killed off this year and pretty sure you can still buy a corsa based on the same platform.
I found out the engine which came in the fiat 850 in the mid 60s was still being used in the cinquecento in the mid 90s!

I wonder what engine you can currently buy has the oldest roots? The current 1.4 in the Fiat family dates to the mid 80’s I think but that’s nothing when compared to the Bentley 6 3/4 which is from 1959!

I'm willing to bet that only the displacement is the same as the 1959 engine.

You’d lose that bet. The L410 is still very much based on the original 1959 design.

Shame it’s being discontinued with the Mulsanne. Another old school push rod V8 is about to succumb to emissions.

Every day's a school day. I knew they switched to BMW back in the late 90s and had the W8s and W12s but didn't realise they went back to the L series.

The big powerplant, like the Chevy small-block V-8 that traces its origins four years further into the past, has undergone significant re-engineering along the way. The bore center spacing is the same as on the original dual-carburetor 6.2-liter version that launched in the 1959 Bentley S2 and Rolls Royce Silver Cloud II, but the block (always aluminum) has undergone redesigns to stiffen the bottom end, the pushrod valvetrain now employs cam phasing to vary the timing of the pushrod-operated valves, there’s cylinder deactivation to shut down four cylinders under light loads, and turbocharging arrived as far back as 1983. With twin turbos and a new cylinder head design, introduced in 2015, today’s port-injected L-series engine boasts 530 horsepower and a locomotive-like 811 lb-ft of torque at only 1750 rpm in the Mulsanne Speed.

Nope, you can still but a brand new corsa 'e' which is a facelift of the first punto based one. You can buy the 'brand new' 2019 corsa now too apparently.
The Adam is based on a shortened version of the same platform too and not the cheaper 500 / ka2 one. Although no idea whether you can buy a new Adam either, there's only so much time I want to spend on a Vauxhall website.
