Jobbo wrote: Thu Jan 17, 2019 6:05 pm The front bumper is nastier than the rear in the video, but fortunately the Sports Design kit alters that too. And doesn't include the side skirts (which I think are fussy) so win/win.
I don’t think the standard front end is bad, but yes, Sports Design is the way to go.

Although I prefer the look of the four exhausts, I'd probably still go for the sports exhaust.

Sniffs advise on what options to tick and what not, definitely agree with no.5 on the not list

Looks just like a 911 to me

I expect they’re, as always, very excellent

I’d like one very much

Same.

Best 911 rear lights since the 993 too.

It feels like the 991 generation came and went pretty quickly

What was the run out special for 997? The 4.0 RS?

Don't think so - RS 4.0 was released a year or so later wasn't it?

I see Monkey Harris has done a first drive video now, clicky. I really like the clean lines of the back-end but in the press shots I hadn’t even considered how the spoiler would look. Having seen it I’m undecided if its a very elegant design or a complete dogs dinner.

The only thing I don't like about the 992 is how the spoiler looks when it's up.

I love the shape of the spoiler but it looks shit when it's up. It's like the flip up lid on some jazzy new type of Brabantia bin 🤣

Just looks like a 993 Turbo spoiler when it's up.

I had to go back to the video to remind myself what the spoiler looks like, to be honest; I certainly didn't remember it being offensive when I watched it a couple of weeks ago. Studying it more closely, there's one slow-mo shot (starts at 10:52) where the spoiler dips down partially as Chris drifts. Is that an aero thing or just due to the speed dropping below a threshold?

I think it is two stage with fully up being air brake mode and a less vertical position for handling so I guess it could be re-adjusting from braking to handling when he's coming off the brakes for that corner.

Not sure whether it variably adjusts in handling mode however.

He doesn't appear to be braking at any point in that - it's normal, horizontal raised position when the car comes into shot, and it goes down virtually to its resting position as it leaves shot.

I kinda agree. I wouldn't say it looks shit, just a but weird. Otherwise, it's a lovely thing 8-) .

He's going into turn 8 at the Hockenheimring which is a sharp left hander and comes into shot at the end of a braking zone. It is preceded by turn 7 which is a less sharp right turn but which he's fully on the brakes for @ 10:43 so a lot of braking in the run up to that shot and the car won't adjust instantaneously.

The combination of low road speed round the turn 8 and reapplying the thottle to drift it sideways then presumably meant it transitioned from handling mode to down which you see in those few frames.

ETA: this article described the spoiler positions: https://www.wheels.ca/news/heres-what-y ... rsche-911/

"A traditional feature on 911s since 1988, the electrical pop out spoiler has grown quite a bit and can be set in three different positions depending on the conditions. Below 90 km/h the spoiler is fully retracted; above that, it goes into a new eco-mode, sort of an intermediate position for the least wind resistance. Performance mode is activated at speeds over 150 km/h and the spoiler fully extends for maximum attack. The spoiler also serves as an air brake helping haul the 911 down with even more intensity."

I think it is transitioning from air brake > maximum downforce > first stage/least wind resistance.

That's an exceptional level of analysis for a few seconds of edited video :)
