E46 compact is a full size e46 underneath just with a truncated hatchback boot.GG. wrote: Mon Jul 16, 2018 1:36 pmI think it was the e36 compact that had e30 underpinnings for the rear suspension because of space considerations, which was why people were recommended to avoid them. I don't think the e46 had the same issue but sure someone will correct me if that's wrong.Beany wrote: Mon Jul 16, 2018 12:50 pm There's the older e36 platform parts underneath, aren't there?
E36 compact is e36 front end and ( very lightly modified ) e30 rear end to save space, weight and cost ) and far from being a reason to avoid it is actually the reason a lot of people like them ( me included ) the e36 compact was obviously designed to be more of a budget option as the dash and interior trim are cheaper and more basic than full fat e36 where as the e46 was more of a premium small car as most of its interior is the same as the full size car too.
