My wife might be coming round to the idea that a Range Rover might be a nice idea. I pointed out one in white and she's commented on a couple of them since, saying how nice they looked. Then she might go all 'they're just for yummy mummies' and per herself off the idea again. Shame as I fancy it (with daily praying for no big bills).

I'd love a RR. The problem with them is, Classics excluded, once one isn't current gen they have a massive wiff of pikey. And current gen are dollardollar.

Stagea is only used as a measure of length, not volume.

Bit of both, depending on what’s gone wrong. They eat bushes for example so that’s four wish bones to do the front axle every 50k miles or so, the parts won’t be cheap and the labour time isn’t exactly quick. Turbos, bottom ends and air sus units can be cripplingly expensive so as suggested earlier avoid the dealers and go for a specialist. It may even be worth talking to a specialist to see if they know of any cars for sale

You're both correct, except in some circumstances. A non-bling L322 can simply look like old money, parked outside a farm or country house. Owned by the same family for a decade and they don't care about cars so haven't seen any reason to change it.

Sort of, quite a few around here like that normally with tiny wheels, AT tyres, encrusted mud in the arches and a horsebox on the back. Needs the £50k+ 2 or 3 digit plate they tend to have to pull that look off fully though.

One with any bling, big wheels etc looks pikey once it's not the latest model.

I have to say I want that grey one now. I adore the L322. I'm not sure the P38A will ever have classic status but a good L322 must surely follow in the footsteps of the original RR in the future.

Of course, the diesel versions will no doubt be banned from the roads and all supercharged ones are bling, so I could never actually buy one

You mean the later 4.4 V8 diesel, Scott? I had my suspicion that that may be the case but being a later L322, it's almost impossible to avoid the bling.

Yes, 2010 onwards AFAIK.

The later models got the rotary dial, new gearbox and better engine (and bling apparently).

altohugh again a westminster/Autobiography were run out models so got more kit. (heated/cooled seats as opposed to heated in the vogue and heated steering wheel) all important natch

Test drove an L322 rangie and was impressed, moreso than the discovery. it was an autobiography, so a great spec, (heated/cooled seats, heated steering wheel) DVD player in the rear but was the 3.6 - the 4.4 is apparently the one to go for as it's a better engine and gets the 8 speed box with paddles so another 30hp with that combo.

ultimately it was very nice, different seating position to the volvo, very upright and the space inside is different too cos of the upright windscreen and dash layout. we both liked it, it feels a bit special. Good visibility, nice spec, went ok too, but this one had some bubbling panels and some dodgy seals on rear window which was fine as it wasn't the exact car for us anyway.
Need to take the monster pram (only had the travel one with us as we were in manc with a bootfull of shite) to make sure it will fit.

Assuming I can find one with the right spec, colour combo etc I can see that being the way we go.

Annoyingly, after months of saying no i hate them we also sat in an E70 X5 as they had one on the forecourt - she quite liked it and more room than she anticipated

Will see if we can find one local to test drive and go from there.

Anyway, serious question, how did the Rangie compare to the Disco in terms of space ? I'm sure the Disco is more practical but I rather like the idea of the V8.

Similar space for the 5 traditional passengers - i think the range rover might just pip the disco on rear leg room. (she was very impressed as she spends alot of time being chauffeured about in the back with the boy.

boot - disco wins of course, but there wasn't as much in it as you might think - solid rear shelf in the range rover might be prohibitive of larger items but is easily removed.
