HaHa, a friend introduced me to them ages ago. They used to be a lot cheaper and he'd bought one for his brother as a present. So I had a go at him yesterday for forcing me to get one by telling me about them. Turns out he's just bought his father in law one too, which is a most generous present but he was hurting from it.

All reactions fair and justified. I justified it to myself (and the wife) because I got most of the cost covered on a long train delay recently.

This is a Romanian - occupied by the Ottomans a long time ago, maybe they had coffee back then?

From my trip across the Balkans, it seemed that Turkish style coffee is popular throughout the countries there...

It's very finely ground, so clogged up the Phin Filter I took with me...problem is that often the supermarkets in some of the countries would only sell pre-ground Turkish coffee!

Anyway, I approve of the slightly bonkers purchase, Duncs! Of course it's a bit expensive, but some people treat themselves to £1200 smartphones that they'll only keep 1 or 2 years and that's considered fine by many these days

@Marv when one puts it into context against what one has spent on the Elise, I'd say that the coffee adventure is quite a bit cheaper than the Lotus adventure! Value is purely about perception.

I'm gutted that my Dualit milk further has stopped heating (it still whisks, but doesn't heat up the milk anymore)

It's not even two years old, which I think is really poor performance

Having contacted them, they've offered me a 34% discount, but I'm a bit pissed off really

Given the cost/premium nature of their brand/products, this doesn't feel like an acceptable offer to me

Not really sure where I stand though in terms of pushing it further?

UK Consumer Rights act is 5-6 years for electrical goods non? (Depending which part of the UK you are in)

I think so, but I don't think the manufacturer/seller is obligated to give more than some amount of refund/discount (as opposed to a full replacement)

I don't know where you bought it but the retailer/website you bought it from are the place to go for a remedy. 6 years is the limitation period for a contractual claim, not the length of warranty but a product has to be of satisfactory quality including as to longevity. If it's failed at 2 years old that sounds like it's not satisfactory but be prepared for an argument.

Manufacturer warranty will have its own terms; if they offer you a discount on a new one that's not great but they might not even be obliged to do that.

"P0" KinGrinder is proving very repeatable : it's 100 (+/-2) turns of the handle to manually grind 20g of beanz for a mug of coffee. I'm still at the stage where I'm finding the ritual quite entertaining, but that's pretty much as much as you can fit in the device (you might get 22-23g in there if you brim it?) so if there's more than one thirsty coffee requestor in the room, you're obviously repeating the task. Which delivers a decreasing level of entertainment.
