To be fair if you convert an early 2000's Golf GTI to today's money it's about £30k, whereas they're 40k these days. Cars have increased more than inflation.

We went down to the local Renault dealer today to test drive an R5. Loved it. Turns out they have two in exactly our spec and colour choice arriving tomorrow, one already allocated on the pre-order thing and one the same which isn’t already sold. It is now

Midnight blue with black roof Techno 150. The larger motor/battery with the denim interior. Should be picking it up next Monday. I hadn’t appreciated that this means we will be pretty early owners. Must sort out a charger…

Trickle charging via 13A socket is not even an option - the car doesn’t come with a granny charger and I’m not going to buy one for the brief period before we have a proper charger fitted.

I've been in France since Saturday and I've only seen one so far (plenty of original Renault 5 though, of course), even many of the Renault dealerships I pass here don't seem to have any outside on display.

I'll try and stop in one of the dealers that has one in and have a poke around, until a sales person comes over and I'll make my excuses and go

Saw my second yesterday in Clio Williams blue, looked great.

We saw hundreds in Belgium and Holland, I’ve only seen one in the U.K. up to now.

It really did look great, I saw the launch yellow colour one the day before and while it still looked God the blue looked better to me.

What's the use case for this? Is it just for when you need to pop to the shops and the Porsche/Audi (I forget what else you've got these days) is less suitable?

My wife wants one because she loves the denim interior and her first car was a blue Renault 5. I think she’ll drive far too many miles in the Cayenne and it’ll cost a fortune in fuel, servicing and depreciation if she does so - this will keep the miles off that a bit. The deals on these are keen, I wanted to try living with an EV and this was by far the most appealing and sensibly priced EV.

Mainly I think she’d like a choice of which car to take
