Just had my renewal through. Last year was £370, this years quote was £515, did a quote through Compare the Market and got a cheaper quote with the same company. Called them up to "confirm" details, get a price of £323. It is a pain, but I don't want to pay more than the previous year.

Just having a play on comparison site......
Car parked at garage vs driveway makes little to no difference.

I've had the same experience. IIRC on one of my E36s garaged was actually more expensive than driveway. All I could think of is that (in that specific case) there was more risk of dropping a ladder on it, or the garage burning down with the house, than the car getting stolen.

Renewal through for the XF from Tesco for £670
Rang them to say on confused they are quoting £345 so why have they sent me this price, they said if its quoted on confused, to send them it and they can then price match themselves.
Told them not to bother, went with Aviva for £312.
What a crock of shit, just quote people the price they'd get!

I remember that years ago Cosworths were cheaper on a driveway as peoples garages were easy to break into, it then gave the thieves a nice out of the way place to disable any alarms or security on the car.

That is my understanding for this logic also (general applicability as opposed to Cossie specific)

Got a renewal quote from the RAC of £271. It handily also told me I paid £280 or so last year. So I just left it to auto-renew. That was easy

Good point about garages.

I think the increase in premium for a car being garaged is more to do with minor scrapes caused by getting the car in and out of the garage than anything else.

Direct Line want £220 for the Yeti. Aviva via Meerkat, £150 for the same terms. Rang Direct Line and they basically said, 'bye then'.

Ours is due shortly too. Not had anything from our current insurer, but running a multi-car quote ends at £712. See how it pans out!

With the new rules about not penalising current customers, was the renewal from your existing insurer sensible?

Renewal from admiral for a multi-car policy up nearly £300, checked some of the other usual suspects and they're also knocking on a grand

(DL wanting nearly that for just the Galaxy).
LV looking best at £750 with a few extras ticked. Just need to check what we can get through a broker we use for other insurance policies. Looking rather expensive to day the least.

Have you done them individually, every multi car policy we tried for 2 or 4 cars was more than doing them separately.

Not for both, but will try that. Quote for the Zoe was about the same as its share of the multi-car policy.
Edit: multi-car works out cheaper for us. Not by a huge amount, but still a win.

So, to round off this year's insurance renewal saga.
For the cars we went with LV. By far the cheapest. Single car policies still ended up well over 30% higher as a combined. The broker we've used before came in at nearly a grand just for the Galaxy.
House insurance is also due and again the broker's best was way off the mark. In fact it was very nearly double last year's renewal and more than double the best we could get this year.
Whatever changes have been proposed to avoid penalising loyal customers, it isn't working as far as I'm concerned.
