The EV Apocalypse
Re: The EV Apocalypse
Interesting article on the BBC about the lack of fast chargers in Wales and I suspect more than half of those 60 are along the M4.

2032 now apparently. 12 years to enjoy the smell of unburned hydrocarbons in the morning, people.
Re: The EV Apocalypse
Lack of chargers is bad enough but my concern is even the existing chargers always seem to be out of service. Both the sites listed in Knutsford have been offline for over a month, for eg.Carlos wrote: Wed Feb 12, 2020 7:43 am Interesting article on the BBC about the lack of fast chargers in Wales and I suspect more than half of those 60 are along the M4.

They're insane, although they did say 2032 was 'hopeful'ShockDiamonds wrote: Wed Feb 12, 2020 12:28 pm 2032 now apparently. 12 years to enjoy the smell of unburned hydrocarbons in the morning, people.
So we've gone from 2040 ban on ICE only cars, to 2035/2032 on ICE cars including hybrids. That 8 years is a whole model cycle.
Idiots.

Re: The EV Apocalypse
I said on another thread that I reckon it will be banned by 2030, next general election the government will pledge it to appease the tree huggers and that’ll be that.
How about not having a sig at all?
Re: The EV Apocalypse
That said it will be mighty amusing watching the government try and fix the next recession which will likely be due to no consumer confidence in purchasing vehicles and it’s not clear what the fuck they want us to do. Buy a petrol or diesel it may be banned, buy a hybrid it may be banned, buy an electric - well that will also be banned from city centres. There will come a point in the next 7 years or so where most people will just keep what they have and that’ll be the car industry fucked.

If FWD 4-thrummer 1-series are the future for enthusiasts then bring on the EV apocalypse

Re: The EV Apocalypse
Yeah I think I agree with you, the next C63 AMG is going to be a 4 parper which will no doubt fart non stop - I’d rather it just be a full EV...Swervin_Mervin wrote: Wed Feb 12, 2020 2:31 pm If FWD 4-thrummer 1-series are the future for enthusiasts then bring on the EV apocalypse![]()

Just a reminder: it’s only new vehicle sales. Stop panicking.ShockDiamonds wrote: Wed Feb 12, 2020 12:28 pm 2032 now apparently. 12 years to enjoy the smell of unburned hydrocarbons in the morning, people.

Re: The EV Apocalypse
I don't really think it is going to be though. Its the thin end of the wedge - as we're seeing with the ULEZ zone in London and proposals for cars being banned from city centres the phase out of ICE in new cars will be followed by the inexorable increase in pressure on reducing the use of ICE powered vehicles - the ICE ban will accelerate that process almost certainly.
The question is merely what will be exempt and for how long. Eco totalitarianism will take no prisoners in the long run.

It’ll go by in a blink of an eye. It feels like only a week ago that I was pissing my bed...

Re: The EV Apocalypse
I don’t get it. Given % of total co2 we emit, it’s a pointless exercise. Unless something is done about China (over 2x that of India iirc) and the other large offenders it won’t make a difference.
Additionally, unless ev cars are fully green which I believe they are not, are they actually any better for the environment?

Re: The EV Apocalypse
It’s always quite interesting how we refer to ourselves being great and China being so bad. A big part of that must come from the fact that we don’t actually make anything for ourselves - we get China to make it for us, cheaply...

Re: The EV Apocalypse
Almost half of all CO2 comes from China and the USA. We pump out about 1%.

Re: The EV Apocalypse
Not saying we are better. Fixing at the source ie those who mass produce is the only way to make a difference.
We have to take some responsibility for that. Al driving ev cars in the UK isn’t going to fix it, IMO.

Same principal for plastic bags and single use plastics. 90% of all the plastics in the oceans comes from 10 rivers - 8 in asia and 2 in Africa.
All the mushy papers straws and hemp reusable shopping bags in the UK or US aint gonna make the slightest fucking difference I'm afraid.
