Do they have severe illness?

It doesn't have 100% efficacy so people will still get it, it should reduce serious illness considerably though (I hope!).
No symptoms, mid 50s
Why did they take the test, if vaccinated and with no symptoms?
Works in health care

oddly specific timeframe there.
That's probably what one of his antivax conspiracy people said.
Some of Broccers statement makes sense - the timeframe. Not sure why he thinks the vaccine won't work though. The likelihood is that the rate would drop off in the warmer months, and rise again in the colder months, as we observed last year. Will be interesting to see what happens in Aus/NZ in that regard.

We won't really understand the longer term implications until we've been through another winter with most of us vaccinated.

I hope it does. Got mine on Thursday. Going back to this misery is not something I hope for. The problem is to save face they cant pretend it really wasnt that bad in the first place and must continue the way they started. See oz and nz. Over reaction.

If Corona virus fills up the NHS again, there will be lockdowns. Why does anyone think this will change?

Depends whether you think the corridors need to be full as well as the wards:

Further to this:

Not understanding the difference between 'empty' and 'segregated for the safety of patients' is what comes from getting your news from social media, without context and with massive confirmation bias from the authors.

But TOMMYDIDNUTHINWRONG🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧 on Twitter said that the hospitals were all empty and this is just a normal flu.

Why would they lie Jobbo?

The NHS was never full otherwise the nightingale hospitals would have been used. They were really busy and some locations were overwhelmed but to say the NHS was full is wrong.

Well true, but that means that the vaccine has failed catastrophically and if that happens, well I dread to think of the economic implications.

I can confirm that 2 of our local hospitals are indeed deserted. Very weird experience having empty wards and being seen within 10 minutes rather than the usual 2 hours.

Ok, had reached their limits of capacity?

My point is I don't really know what these 60 MPs are on about. The lockdown situation cannot change unless you're talking allowing people to die en masse. :?

Ah yes, those magic additional hospitals with no magic additional staff to run them

Anecdotal evidence is always the best way to judge things on a national level

A bit more anecdotal evidence, our cleaner who is also a part time nurse said to me today it's pretty much back to normal in our local hospital in terms of treating normal stuff rather than covid patients.

Appreciate it will vary in different hospitals.

FWIW, on the current trend infection rate in my area will be at previous tier 2 levels within a week or two. Another couple of weeks at current rate it will be at Cornwall's tier 1 level from the same period.

With the way that infections have been declining recently then it's no surprise that hospitals are not as busy.

That shouldn't be used to judge how things were when infections were spiking (I figure you know that duncs but sometimes you have to state the obvious in this thread ;) )

Of course, and I'm certainly not advocating opening up everything tomorrow. We don't need any more chaotic hokey cokey policies (even hospitality as desperate as it must be getting for them). If nothing else I can't cope with hearing about how many million more pints of beer have been tipped down the drain!

One plan with a sensible lead in is what we need. In my head, based on what stats I've seen etc, Easter seems sensible for hospitality. It will be a good test of the infection rate when the schools open, although I still think that when they did table service in pubs it would create less spread than schools being open. However, it seems like schools tend to get traded off against hospitality.
