After the Galaxy's ordeal going up and over Hardknott and Wrynose passes, all isn't entirely well. It feels a bit sluggish and threw a temp warning again yesterday while creeping along a roasting M25.

Coolant levels look okay (according to the reservoir), so will book it in with my trusty tuna for a bit of TLC.

I went for the “suspiciously cheap” ebay jobbies @ £160 for the pair. It might come back to bite me. We’ll see.

Thanks. Hope they last!

Plus, they're purple, so...yeah.
I have the sames on my ARB.

While washing the car yesterday, I've noticed on three out of four wheels, the lacquer/clearcoat is beginning to crack. The wheels were refurbed last year and at the time, I wasn't too impressed with the service I got from The Wheel Specialist. Gonna take the wheels to a local guy who has a good rep, and get the slightly bent rim fixed at the same time.

That is rather shit.

Which branch did you use in the end? Was it the one I recommended? 😳

Aye, that branch. I was pissed at the time when they didn't inflate one of the wheels correctly (23psi instead of 2.3bar FFS!) and one other wheel was leaking air cos they didn't screw the stem in correctly  . And let's not go into the orange peeling  .

Hmm. When I used them on the VXR8 they were recently opened and seemed to be trying hard on price and service. :?

<Makes note not to return in future>

Do you wash the car yourself or use one of those quick wash places ?

Dave!

Wash myself, and I don't use acid-type wheel cleaners.

I like new ARB bushes. They always seem to make more difference that you’d expect.

While it would be unfair to call it a can of worms, the work I’m doing on the Touareg is turning up a few other minor things to fix. I’ve not found the main oil leak yet but I did find a leak from an intercooler hose, due to a previous pillock not attaching it properly. Possibly leaking some BOOST too.

There was also a broken attachment on one of the air filter housings. Someone had clearly tried fixing it before (and failed). For a better fix I got a piece of plastic that I’d removed from the rear valence when fitting the tow bar. Cut to fit, drilled a hole in the middle, then put it all back together with masses of Araldite and clamped it with a socket & a g-clamp while it set.

The broken fixing would have been allowing a small amount of dirty air into the engine. The hose goes to the compressor for the suspension. The engine is probably fine but depending how long it’s been like this it may have accelerated wear on the compressor as it’s a totally dry system.

New fuel filters look fairly easy while I’ve got all this apart so I’ll add that to the list too.

I also scored some OEM Cayenne roof bars on eBay for a bargain £8.50 8-)

Came across a slightly new malady for the first time at the weekend - had a drive around the Cotswolds and then back home to London in the heat. Whilst sat in traffic with the A/C on at the end of the journey, I started getting the odd whiff of petrol in the cabin. I thought initially that it was the car in front running rich but realised after a while it was coming from mine. :?

Seems to be much more pronounced with the air con/blower switched on and largely disappears when switched off (not that practical in 33 degree heat!) and isn't coming from the engine bay. Suspect it is something to do with the fuel filler pipe or breather system on the tank perhaps. Will have to see what its like at the weekend before seeing if I need to get it booked in to be looked at or whether it can wait.

It’s just starting to get that classic car smell as it gets older ;)

I think I've mentioned before that I get a slight hesitation on acceleration in first on the BMW, and I've been tinkering here and there trying to track it down. Cleaned MAF, checked the intake runs for vacuum leaks etc.

Yesterday, there was no sign of it, whatsoever. Didn't spot it this'd morning either.

Electrical? Coil pack? Erroneous MAF readings? The little goblins that pour the petrol into the injectors finally come off strike?

Odd. Odd odd odd.

No I didn’t drive it to the beach to check if it’s all ok before it has its MOT and service next week, that would be too risky with all the Police we have ;)
Well it’s not all ok. When I pulled it out I did notice some oil on the floor but I wasn’t sure if it was an old leak from another car. Just been told that the oil drain plug is seized and that’s it’s also seeping oil from the sump so they can’t do an oil change and it’s easier if they just replace the whole sump.

Wondering if the previous mechanic over-tightened the plug now :?
