He's certainly lining up to be one of the greats of this generation, but IMO the all-time greats win championships with other teams and/or have another championship winning driver as a teammate (who is still in their prime) and match - or preferably - beat them.

I'm sure Max is that good, but it's a bit of an unknown.
Yeah, fair comment. I think he will go to another team at some point and that will be really interesting. What he's been doing with that car since the middle of last season is deeply impressive though.

Another race weekend.

Sainz in a Williams has qualified ahead of Hamilton. Yuki in 10th with max in 7th, when was the last time Max had a team mate so close? šŸ˜„

Good to see the grid mixed up nicely. Tomorrow, I'd like to see a winner who hasn't won this year yet. So if Oscars tyres can grain up a bit more than a few of the cars behind, that would be great!

Great quali, I don't remember the last time we had such a mixed up grid from a dry quali. Looking forward to the race.

Glad George didn’t get a penalty for an electrical gremlin. Hulkenberg disqualified though, skid blocks again

I didn’t think it was a memorable race, weird how overtaking has suddenly got so much more difficult this year.
Ferrari doing an on the fly strategy change which was actually the better choice was the big surprise.
Only usurped by the Jackie Steward helmet that was ā€œsigned by every living F1 world championā€ - wonder if that includes Schumacher. Which leads to even more questions…

Lando really needs to sort out his mental game. You’d think he just lost the championship at the last race of the season. He’s also in the unfortunate position that his teammate has a Scandinavian personality.

It was a decent race, if not hugely memorable. Everyone expected Oscar to win, which he did with no real issues.

Lando made a cracking start, even if many will put it down to being out of position. Still, made up three places on the first lap when Max went down one.

Antonelli looked strong early on, but kind of faded to meh.

I think there were only 3 places between max and Yuki at the end, both in the points, so looks like it was the right choice to give him the drive.

The Vcars were nowhere, odd as they looked decent upper midfield in the past few races. I guess everything being so close means it only takes a slight off meet to plummet down the field.

Stroll and Alonso right at the bottom. How long before daddy pulls the plug on his cash flow seemingly being pissed up the wall? Or are they working on long term plans for next year with Newey on board and pretty much giving up on anything this season?

Maybe not memorable, but there was a plenty of overtakes around the field that were not just dull DRS position swaps. By current standards I'd say that's gonna be in the top half of races for overtakes this year. Lots of different tyre performance offsets mainly what made the difference but as you say, so difficult to get close, so where the main race tyres of choice are working well we're going to see much less action than this.

A decent race relatively speaking, which says a lot of the last few years.

I was predicting McLaren favouring Oscar after race 6, which is the next one. It’s looking like I could be right……

This season is a bit of a let down for me after all the expectations that it would be tight between 4 teams. And I’m now in the odd position of rooting for Max purely so that it’s not a McLaren intra team battle for the championship.

I’m not following it closely, but I am rooting for anyone-but-max.

šŸ˜‚ Yes although Max has gone up in my books as he’s showing genuine talent wrestling consistently and outperforming his car. Something which I never felt with Vettel. Incidentally both were cvnts but maybe driving a bad car for a few years is what humbles F1 drivers.
I just feel like if Lando were to win the championship it would be a bit like Jacque Villeneuve.
Piastri is still an unknown quantity.

Agree, it’s different now he isn’t in a rocket ship 30+ seconds down the road after the first pit stop.
