Eurotunnel crossing is closing in 2 hours as France are not allowing anyone from U.K. to enter - I’m keenly awaiting further research in the coming days to show that the mutant strain is from France
Edit - freight ban too. M20 will be fun.

Not funny really, looks like the rest of the world realised how the UK has been unable to follow distancing guidelines and have no intention of following Tier 4 rules.

Just got a note from the School that our Son must now self isolate due to close contact with an infected student.
Kinda pissed off a bit because they spent most of the week watching movies.

I think the UK is being unfairly penalised for having better surveillance than the rest of the world. This new strain would easily explain why Germany’s latest lockdown measure haven’t been a success.

You would have thought testing people coming in and out would've been mandatory for 9 months. It's still over hyped imo, if it was so contagious the country would be in a whole different place.

Germany were seen as a shining example of how to control the virus, yet over the past week or so more people have died from it over there than here, yet they’re stopping us from going there
Still seems a bit mad that they didn’t close the schools a bit earlier for Christmas to give it a chance to die down a little before the inevitable household mixing.
On my shift alone there are 4 people who have children who have been told to isolate but aren’t showing symptoms, and my supervisor is off because her husband had a fever and is awaiting test results. We haven’t had anyone off / isolating since mid April.

I've always said it since about a year after I moved here - If it's one thing this country needs more than anything else it's a bit of decent PR. As a "foreigner" who has chosen to build a life in the here, Britain is a awesome country and, individually and collectively, a awesome nation. It's just a shame people who don't live here don't see it.

The fact that it was discovered in Kent and London suggests it came in either via ferry or Eurostar. The fact that we found it first is because we have among the best sequencing in the world. This is already in Europe. They just don't know it yet. And I bet it came from there too.

It's just as likely to have mutated here and left via the Eurostar or ferry - it's a virus, we're not special and nor are people in the EU.
The way this country is being seen as unclean has echoes of northern Italy 10-11 months ago.

As the new mutation has now been found in many places all over the world including Europe I feel like the closed border is more to do with Brexit politics than anything else at this moment in time.
