About fucking time but it was so blatant they had to do something.

Maybe Max will finally follow through on his threat of quitting F1 due to all the silly rules

Will also be glad once Sainz goes to a back marker team so I don’t have to hear his whinging over trying to stay in front of his team mate for the win…

Just thinking the same thing, as soon as he's in front it's "ooh, stop the racing"

Nice to see them finally having enough of Max’s behaviour, but shame it deprived us of a genuine fight for the lead. The second incident let CL through, Max knowing he has 20 seconds worth of penalty probably made him even more dangerous for Norris to attempt to pass, so just had to wait it out.
Was sure we were going to see the Ferrari in the barrier on the last corner after that snap!
Earlier in the year when merc were on the rise it looked like LHs move to Ferrari might have been the wrong way to go, but now it’s starting to look like a good decision again.

I'll give Max some credit, seems like he knows his car isn't fast enough to challenge for the win, so he's giving the Ferraris an easy time to get ahead, then trying to back up Norris. Worked again today, Norris would have won the race if he wasn't held up behind Max for the entire first stint.
Max was probably thinking he'd get a 5 second penalty at most, which would have made no difference to his race. I guess a drive through penalty would have been more appropriate, to get him to pit within 3 laps.

Apparently there’s going to be an update to the drivers guidelines ready for Qatar in 3 races time. This was actually decided and drivers informed before todays race so max knows his style is on borrowed time and is using it while he can
I don't entirely understand how the change would work in the real world if it is this:
"The current rules dictate that a driver trying to overtake on the outside needs only be afforded room exiting the corner if the front axle of his car is ahead of that of the inside car at the apex.
Many drivers feel the rule needs to be changed to add a caveat that if the driver defending his position also ends up going off track, he should face some form of penalty."
Reads to me like you can still push the other car off the track, just don't go off track yourself.
Can still be exploited the same way, brake later than your opponent, and push them off and they will have to give the place back/get a 5s penalty.

It should just be “drive as if that white line is a brick wall”

Karun does a decent job of explaining the difference between the Austin and Mexico incidents, applying the (stoopid) F1-specific rules/guidelines. Great to see Max impacted by his intentionally shitty and intentionally dangerous driving. Doesn't happen often.
I think it's safe to say though that - had Sainz not been in Max's way at turn4 Mexico - The Stapp would just have eased off the stoppers and made sure his nose was in front at the Apex in order to legitimise him then shoving Norris off.
Max is so predictable now - the Lap1 Corner1 shove-off was an absolute certainty.

I’m also wondering how no one at redbull noticed Perez was miles past his start box. It wasn’t just a little bit, it was obvious from the onboard tv camera. Surely they have people watching things like that?
I know there wasn’t much they could do about it, but they seemed surprised about the penalty and Perez himself didn’t seem to understand what the issue was.

Don’t know what’s happened with São Paulo, went from the best race of the season to one of the worst!

Was a bit rubbish, think maybe the tyres were just too soft, seemed a few struggling at the end.

What was going on with the VSC, I thought they were supposed to sit at a set speed which kept gaps consistent, max was obviously playing around as if it was a normal safety car.

He’s under investigation, will have to wait and see what happens

Just seen he got a 5 second penalty, what an idiot. Also I'm pretty certain that rule about not being side by side under SC/VSC was brought in due to Max going doing that very thing with Lewis in 2021.

Wasn’t because of side by side, was because he went too fast and dipped below his time delta.
