Shit happens sometimes. A better lap earlier and he might not have been in that position. Leaving the pits 20 seconds earlier or later and he would have been fine.

Good session for the two newbies. Being not an f1 driver you would assume a tight unforgiving track like that would be difficult to get on the pace at. I guess a bit of fearless youthful exuberance helps!

I saw a clip from the Williams garage. The person who released Albon's car was a plum and did it as the airbox fan was being removed, the mechanic very nearly got run over. Makes sense now why the FIA investigated it as an unsafe release.

Think I'd be tempted to do a pit lane start, new engine running a bit more power if I were Lando. Pretty much guaranteed a safety car here too so will end up probably finishing around Max anyway.

How far down the pit lane were they? Seemed to be a long while to get him to stop. Pretty sure if he’d stopped within the pit lane the mechanics would have been able to remove it. Obviously not once he actually got on track.

Oscar is the real deal though. Didn’t seem to get credit for his late braking which is what kept him in front.
Doesn’t seem to suffer from emotions or make big mistakes under pressure - real machine.
It’s like he’s got 10 years of experience in F1 already.

Anytime they showed Oscar’s onboard looking back at Charles you could see his rear tyres wouldn’t last, he was fishtailing accelerating out of the corners every time

I thought the drs mechanism was a standardised component?

I don’t think so in terms of the mechanism - remember a few years ago when Red Bull were doing something suspicious and it kept breaking on their car necessitating a bodge every race.

Yeah I think we've seen the future in this race. I've never been confident that LeClerc and Norris have the cojones to fight hard enough and Piastri seems.to have that in spades. But without the poisonous character of Verstappen

He did a good job of only doing what he had to. Not defending and choosing his line when he could see the closing speed wasn’t high enough for a pass to have been on, defending when he needed to.

I didn't think the whole flap was opening - the gap looks the same to me towards the centre of the car. It is defo deflecting at the outer ends though.

Yeah, Oscar looks like the real deal for sure, Lando will be feeling uncomfortable. I think Norris really needs a big statement win and a good swing of points over Max urgently. He actually did well to make any inroads given quali but it's not enough.

It's actually been a decent year for racing this year, I'll definitely aim to catch as many of the last races as I can as you do feel there's going to be action.

Lando lacks self-confidence. He certainly has the talent, but not the self-belief. Hopefully that will come, especially if McLaren do the right thing and prioritise his championship bid. I think McLaren's failure to do so yet has had a psychological impact on him. He did an amazing job to further eat into Verstappen's lead considering where he started. Piastri's a very good driver, but one good win doesn't make a career or a season. It's his first win on merit and everyone thinks he's the second coming.

I've always said LeClerc is overrated - nothing I've seen from him makes me think he's World Champion material.

There were great performances by Bearman and Colapinto too. The sooner Hamilton and Alonso retire to make space for some of the talent coming in from F2, the better.
