Kent Day; https://www.kentonline.co.uk/kent/news/ ... ts-267742/
If I'd noticed beforehand I'd've suggested as the closest sounding to Forum Day.

One of my grandfathers was chief engineer across three collieries around Sheffield back in the day, meaning my old man was born and brought up for a wee while on a mining village and spent heaps of time in the engineering workshops. He also became an engineer, and in his 40's started to build himself his own mini-steam engine he was going to power the outside sheds from, using scrap metal and his lunch breaks at work. As a kid he brought it home a number of times and showed me parts of it working and at like 9 or 10 it was the most fascinating thing. Then mum got sick and passed and he never finished it, eventually repurposing it just before he retired to be a little coal burning stove/heater he still uses to cook on and keep him warm sat out the back of his granny flat on late summer evenings. He hasn't bought any coal for it since the early 2000's, as between the stuff he bought and the odd bits that fell on the roadside when people used to have coal delivered has kept him running ever since.

Steam engine things will never NOT be cool, even though they're obviously an environmental nightmare. We can't be far away from reaching the stage where there's no one who knows how to maintain them now though? All destined to sit in museums and never move before too long?
Nah, plenty of heritage railways and traction engine rallys still going strong with loads of young volunteers/family members learning the skills.

In July 1975 Archie Vicar contributed a review of the Hillman Hunter to the “Brecon Beacons Herald Advertiser”. Here is what he wrote.

Amazing, love the ashtray review

My paternal grandfather had a Hillman Minx which used the same body as the Hunter. I was only very young when he had it but I do remember him driving much faster than other cars I had travelled in, very exciting for a small me :D
