I've been keeping an eye out for a silver 318ti Sport with no sunroof and there's not many around. Easy engine swap. Or a six-pot conversion....

Aim higher, if you're swapping the engine, it has to have a higher cylinder count than your current cars. Think E60 M5 or a replica of the one Racing Dynamics did back in the day.

Ha ! But back in realistic world a 318ti is simple and a 328 is reasonably easy.

It will need an MOT as a first step, then I'll drive it a bit, maybe use it on the next Autosolo on the 24th. Then think about it

I've been enjoying Autosolos recently in the Porsche, but it's not really the right car for that kind of thing. Small & light is the key. I got 2nd place last week but FTD was a 1987 Mini Mayfair ! MX5s are very popular for these things but I'm not a Mazda (Men Behaving Badly reference there for you)

Anyway. Small, cheap, light, RWD. And the rear axle is the same as an E30 - which are famously awful to drive. Weld up the diff and it's hilarious fun.

And I don't care if you care There's more to driving fun than just big horsepower.

As far as I know, the later 316i like these were the same spec as the ti in all but engine. Unlike my early 1.6 one which was quite different underneath.

My ti is slow by the figures, but zings along nicely once up and rolling, and feels quite a lot more nimble and chuckable than a full size e36. It's definitely made the commute while I sort the m3 out a lot more bearable than it would have been in the 316.

We're near bury stedmunds so unlikely to be on your route but wouldn't be much of a detour if you fancied a drink and browse the collection of scrap to break up the journey!

Hey I wasn't disagreeing, just not understanding. I get it now, and agreed on the bhp-isn't-always-everything thing.

Depends which side of Bury, Google says I'll be coming home down the A11, but regardless I may just take you up on that offer (even if it's just to use the loo!).

I was banking on this one being the later spec with rear discs etc when I put in my bid. Fingers crossed I've not made a big boo-boo there. I'm not enough of a Mazda to pull out of an auction I've won, so I'm kinda committed now.

Can't see why not, I'd have thought it should bolt up to the flywheel/clutch/ gearbox you already have.

Don't blame you, although to be honest a trip into Norfolk isn't too bad since they finally dialled all the way into Norwich a couple of years ago.

If you do keep it and strip it I'll still be interested in the interior and can donate some doorcards if you needed to keep some.

How the heck do you kerb the alloys on a track day only car

Been driving a Mk7 Golf this week - only a 1.4 Match but it's a decent runabout. Oddly enough, I actually prefer my Bora. Gearing aside (oh, to have a 6th gear....) it feels smaller, lighter and more nimble.

Also, gave the Elise a damn good clean, including claying and polishing. I still shun the "detailing" thing, however....

Lovely. Still a great colour for the S2. Is it for sale yet?
