I expect because of cost/staffing resource implications in having two centres up and running. Probably only viable for short periods at peak to provide overflow capacity and not as a regular fully staffed facility.

Seems like everyone has belatedly realised that herd immunity is the only way forward? Instead of the accusations that we locked down too late, shouldn't the question now be why we didn't lock down/isolate only older people first and allow it to spread throughout other lower risks group (subject to you taking your own precautions as you see fit, i.e. the Swedish approach)?

We seem to now think that isolating the elderly is not viable anymore but we did isolate them for a time but did not build up any reservoirs of immunity during such time as all young people were fully locked down also. That seems to be a cock up to me and we're repeating the same mistakes with any second circuit breaker?

I wonder if that's down to the logistics of staffing them according to levels of cases coming in? I.e. we'll hit a point where it becomes viable to make use of 100% of a team's time on just covid stuff and that's when they move them and open the hospitals?

The American case of the chap getting reinfected after such a short period is very worrying - hopefully it’s extremely rare otherwise this is something which will be with us forever more.

I've read two stories of re-infection and there's been something like 38 million recorded cases, I wouldn't start panicking just yet.

From my limited understanding, people who have had it will most likely have antibodies, but there’s only a finite number of them, and it would take time for the body to make more in response to an infection.

So, if you received a high enough new dose you could overwhelm the immune system before the body can react, but just by having some already and your body knowing how to make them you should be far less likely to be reinfected to the point where virus cells reproduce.

My mates borough (Elmbridge, Surrey) is going into Tier 2 on Saturday. We have/had a bike park day (417) booked for Sunday, so he's had to bail on that one.

I'm not looking forward to this 3 tier lockdown spreading.

You can't leave your area to travel to somewhere with a lower level.

its an uplift day, there's more than 6 in the van, but socially distanced (minibus outside seats only). Gutted for him, it is his birthday, but he called and got a credit note for missing it.

I suspect plans are already being drawn up for a tier 4 in areas where 3 doesn't do the trick.

And we start with some of the lowest numbers of nurses per capita in the Western world. Who can blame them though? Being a general adult nurse is a unforgiving, underpaid and generally crap job.
