I know where you're coming from, but can I suggest someone is maybe doing it wrong somewhere if that's your experience?V8Granite wrote: Tue Oct 06, 2020 8:30 am I know we are full of IT superstars but since 1998 I’ve never known a newly installed or bit of IT software that has simply worked.
I think apart from some auto calculating excel forms (which invariably have some limitation with date or access etc) everything has been version 2,3,4 etc.
This includes software, things like Concur, WinTid, Zalaris, our own work portals etc etc.

Re: Coronavirus
Anyway, enough of these lolz, I hear we're getting a two week lockdown up here soon. Good times.

In the meantime, here's how the French cases are tracking - you know, the ones that Vallance and Whitty suggested we'd follow a similar path to when they showed their "doubling every 7 days" chart:

To be fair though, Dave, you face the same mediocrity in your own industry. Lazy fixes, bodges, that's why you have a job rather than whatisface from the subcontinent, as there is a lot of money on the line. One stupid data error in my industry and someone drills in the wrong place, many millions down the drain.
The shocker here is many lives being on the line.

Would you approach it differently though ?
Given the opportunity I presume you would do more testing etc but is the method used to get there any different than any other data entry, organisational bit of software ?

Re: Coronavirus
Lots of speculation regarding the source of this current spike - university clusters being blamed but I doubt that is all of it.
Nonthrless, hospital admissions and ventilated patients remain less than a tenth of those at peak.

Yes, very much so. Everyone else uses a database! In theory completely limitless. Excel is just the thing at the end that you create a data dashboard or reporting tool in, and dump the data to.V8Granite wrote: Tue Oct 06, 2020 8:23 pm Would you approach it differently though ?

Re: Coronavirus
Can anyone recommend a decent reusable mask that you can actually breath through but doesn't make you look like a cunt? It's pretty unpleasant on my train commute wearing one, but I can live with it. They're now on about wearing one whenever you leave your desk at work, which it going to be a bit much. Time to spend a bit more on something I can live with.
Re: Coronavirus
I got a mask with the elastic on the top and the bottom so they don't hook behind your ears etc
Way more comfortable...

Yeah, ear pain is one thing, but it's more about something that allows a more free flow of air.dinny_g wrote: Wed Oct 07, 2020 10:14 am I got a mask with the elastic on the top and the bottom so they don't hook behind your ears etc

Re: Coronavirus
I have a fabric washable 55 Deltic mask to spread the word that I’m a cool person who likes trains. It works well and looks brand new after multiple washes.
Compared to a proper single use medical mask though it’s not even close.
The only free flowing masks I’ve used have carbon canisters on.
I’d have a re-useable one for work if you are going to be able to take it off when at your desk and a medical style throwaway one for the commute.

Re: Coronavirus
When they issue out these lockdowns it amazes me that they think um 16 days will do it or 2 weeks or a 6pm kerfew or 10 or just shut everything.
Can't help but wonder where it will end.

I think they're genuinely now just using this advanced tool to make decisions every day while hanging about in the staff canteen.
