Coronavirus
Re: Coronavirus
It's not an NHS app though. It may have their logo, but it's a private effort.

If it has the NHS logo on, it's NHS. Doesn't matter if they sub-contract development.Simon wrote: Fri Oct 02, 2020 12:35 pm It's not an NHS app though. It may have their logo, but it's a private effort.

Re: Coronavirus
Strangely enough I've just seen my query answered on twitter - the UK track and trace apps won't talk to each other ( Scot <--> Eng).
Cheers,

Re: Coronavirus
So, these 16,000 missing cases, what complex IT issue was to blame for this?
The reason was apparently that the database is managed in Excel and the number of columns had reached the maximum number allowed.... So at some point when the data was being collated or imported, something threw up an error which was presumably ignored or not understood and here we are.
Well done everyone.

Nononononono that can't be true

(edit - I'd assume the raw data is handled in Excel before being spat out as a CSV for import into a Heroku/Mongo or similar cloudy SQL type affair)
Also, link please, I could do with a laugh!

Probably some child in charge to save money.
I remember when an office intern faxed all my sales and margin to a client when asked to do a simple task. I'm not shocked.

Yeah, I'm assuming there was a .csv file involved and some importing shenanigans, but honestly....Beany wrote: Mon Oct 05, 2020 11:16 amAscender wrote: Mon Oct 05, 2020 11:15 am So, these 16,000 missing cases, what complex IT issue was to blame for this?

£12 billion pound system and I presume they've hit the 65536 row limit Microsoft did away with in Excel 2007

Sounds like your man had a great time. Remind me, was he in hospital or at a spa this weekend?

Re: Coronavirus
A large IT system developed in a short time probably with limited testing has a glitch, non-shocker. Compounded by some IT illiterate politician point scoring when she probably has sod all idea of the actual system design and heard someone mention excel.

Translation - prepare for more even more draconian lockdowns as the media now goes into overdrive as it must oppose everything trump says.

I mean, that's the votes of the families of 200,000 people, and the better part of seven and a half million infected voters he's lost with that.Ascender wrote: Mon Oct 05, 2020 8:04 pm Sounds like your man had a great time. Remind me, was he in hospital or at a spa this weekend?
