Assuming that is making use of the Google & Apple API, everything is anonymised, so your handset is just a random string of numbers. If you come in to contact with someone who later tests positive, its just all numbers. Even a location which has a record of when you were there, still only has a record of a random string of numbers being there at a certain time.

There's much more of a footprint left by the manual pen & paper methods, or those which ask you to sign in to their wifi or their app to leave details for track and track. But I guess that's a 3rd party with your info rather than the government. Which means it could still be abused - from what I've seen, the smaller the company (i.e. your local pub) are more likely to abuse it, due to their ignorance about GDPR as much as anything.

They have a good old pen and paper method too as some other chap was having the same issue Rich had earlier where the permissions on his phone weren’t allowing the app to run.

Talking to a guy who was out in London on Saturday. Said he left a restaurant at 9.30pm, and from then on the streets were just mayhem with everyone piling out of bars, trying to get taxis etc. Took him forever to get home.

That's as may be, but crowds all leaving at the same time still increases the risk. If people want to drink past 10pm in a group they're going to do it anyway, probably in a bigger group in a smaller place (like a house or flat). Easier to let people leave at normal times (pubs are rarely full at closing IME), probably also less likely to carry on drinking if they've had their fill in the more controlled environment of the pub anyway.

People are just getting pissed earlier. London is usually pretty tidy in that you never see swathes of drunk people unless very very late. Just get up the next morning on your early commute walking round the puddles of vomit that the good old pigeons are trying to clean up!
Now you go out at 9pm and it’s genuinely a shit show outside with the number of people staggering about and drunk women crying on pavements...

No it’s idiots being idiots.

Huge parts of society are losing out, groups, clubs, organised events costing companies thousands etc but if people get told they can’t stay in the pub all night they act like dicks. It’s not hard to have a little forward planning.

Some personal responsibility wouldn’t be that hard to grasp but it appears a few more rum swizzles is more important.

It’s like those who moan that it’s hard to get a taxi on New Years at 01:00.

It doesn’t matter what curfews, plans, limitations are in place there will be groups of people doing stupid things like all bungling out at 10pm and messing about in the streets.

They should have no limitations at all or we should be like 1940s Russia and be put in the gulag if we are seen out after dark. Anything in between just has the hard of thinking making a mess of it.

I see, you're right that it's possible to avoid it to some degree, but equally if even if you're in a group of two time can get away from you in a pub! I also remember being a youth and would probably have flouted the rules too, so it's hard to hold too much against them. I just question whether the 10pm rule really offers any significant benefits to offset the cost and hassle.

The table service rule makes a lot more sense (I worry whether some smaller pubs can afford the staff levels needed, but I can see the benefits in it so support it).
