Unpossible. JB Weld never breaks.

Years ago, a heat exchanger (That's the correct term for a water fed oil rad, not oil cooler) failed on a van we had & produced a horiffic mess. Basically, the oil & water swapped places. The dealer miss-diagnosed HGF, replaced it and proceeded to cook the engine on the road test. Thankfully it was under warranty, so was all sorted easily.

Hopefully this is what's up with yours. Can you bypass the heat exchnger cooling side easily to see if this cures it?

Dave - you've got time on your hands, the heat exchanger doesn't sound mega difficult to change, so get stuck in. The satisfaction & kudos gained from doing it yourself would be immense. If you were local I'd lend a hand.

I was having a read around last night and the biggest issue seems to be access, but if you have the time and the inclination it seems far from impossible, a few bloody knuckles not withstanding.

Edit to remember that it's a twenty year old car, not a three year old ex-lease purchase. A few 'lifetime' parts having a shit-fit isn't exactly outwith the realms of possibility now that it's being given a few hard mashing and sawing sessions.

TBH it wouldn't be changing the part that would put me off trying that fix on my drive, it would be draining and flushing all the gunk out of the cooling system.

Hope it ends up being an easy fix Rev.

Is there one of those self service garages near you? Getting it up on a lift plus more equipment might make it an easier fix.

Again with the FnL one - they spent a long time cleaning the pipes (only to decide they actually needed to get new ones - can’t remember?)

Anyway, it’s episode 9, series 11 () if you want to get depressed Rev!

What stops me tackling it myself is the fact that my drive is a 30° slope and there’s no chance of getting in my garage at the moment. I’ll just throw it at the specialist and go from there.

I’m willing to bet if it’s a common issue then a specialist will be able to source the parts and do the job, with the right tools, far quicker and for not that much more money than what you could do it for if you went and bought the bits and tools needed yourself.

Yeah, plus that way you know it’ll be done - otherwise there’s always the risk of getting half way through then having to decorate the spare room/etc...!

You make a very compelling point

I'd still K20 turbo swap it, as I think this would boil peoples piss even more than a LS, and you could do it all for cheap with ebay parts.

I do love how people always think changing to a completely different engine is such an easy job

But the word is swap! That's easy! Like changing a marble for a gobstopper.

I like the idea of a sheddy 996 track day car with a K24 in it.

If I’m ever going to go to the trouble of doing an engine swap, it won’t be for some shitty 4 squodger.
