Oil is always a good topic for an argument :)

I’m not sure if it’s still what they use, but last time I asked my Tuna what oil they had put in my car, it was Mobil Super 2000 10/40 semi-synth. The previous owner had it serviced there too so as far as I know that’s what it’s been running on for the last nine years / 30k miles. Seems to work fine. Currently just shy of 113k miles.

First in class (out of 11) and second overall (out of 34).

I only squeaked into second by a tenth of a second from third, but first place was a full ten seconds ahead of me, quite a margin. A pensioner in a 1987 Mini Mayfair. Seriously.
Congrats on the second place - any onboard? Especially from the Mini! ;)

I've not filmed any of my runs, and I don't think there's any in-car from the Mini either. Best I can find right now is an MX5 from last year's event, pretty much the same course as yesterday.

It's fun and relatively inexpensive.

Different course, but here's one of the regulars from my club. He drives a tiny little Healey Sprite and is bloomin' quick:

Happened once when I was at Anglesey track day. Marshal came over to check cos they thought my car was on fire  I suspect I might have overfilled the oil.

Yes, mine has started doing this more frequently (since I had the AOS replaced ironically). Different scenario to you though - it always tends to happen after it has been sat for a few days or more. They also changed the oil at the time of replacing the AOS so I wonder if they used something different (though would be surprised).

Can be quite dramatic can't it! Fortunately only lasts for a few seconds :? 5W-40 sounds like a good shout for the next service.

Mate's GT3 is just the same. I guess there's just no way of oil NOT sitting in the bores when it's parked up. And yes, it's quite dramatic!

Mine has never done this. Weird. Maybe it's a fake one :)

I'll bet yours has 5-40 or 10-40 already in it. It was my OPC who put Mobil 1 0-40 in just after I bought it, the specialists before had been using the thicker when cold oil.

Does seem suspicious that mine has started doing it more frequently after 9E changed the oil. I'll be delighted if it can be cured with simply using higher viscosity stuff.

Give them a call and ask what they put in there ? You don't need to make a fuss, just say you want to pick up a small bottle of the same from Halfords before a long road trip or something. If they put 0/40 in then you might be onto something.

I've been naively topping it up with 0W-40 taking it for granted that that was what was in it before I read this discussion so kind of hoping it is!

1000 mile trip through Brittany and Normandy completed in the 7. Approx figure as the speedo cable that should've fixed the odo... didn't. I'll do a post when I've sorted through the pics. Alas no hotel owner asked me to park it out front :|

Spotted the QE aircraft carrier on the way back from Le Havre:

Tried cruising back home at 70mph last night. It was surprisingly chilled out, although I think I'd need an audiobook rather than music to stop me from getting dreadfully bored. Seems to drink quite a lot less at 70 than at 80, too going by the fuel gauge. I'll see if I can resist the temptation to boot it for a couple of weeks, and see if I can get it above 600 miles a tank/40mpg (best is 38mpg so far, with lots of hoofing it and very fast cruising).

Otherwise it's asking for an oil service, so I'll probably see how much a specialist wants to do it, baulk, then to do it meself, along with the easy filters, etc - cabin filter is a 'wedge the entire interior out of the way' type job from my quick googling of the subject.

I'll probably do the cabin filter when I pull my finger out and get an A2DP/iPod compatable bluetooth/ICE unit, (it's an earlier car so doesn't have it as standard, but it's a straight swap AFAIK) as the CD changer in there is shockingly unreliable - pretty much every third time you start the car it has a bloody mech error that requires punching it while hitting the eject button to resolve.

It'll want a pair of boots at the front soon too.

So far, so dull (famous last words)

Jesus man, how do you sleep at night?!! 😂

I can't ever top up with anything but the actual make, model and grade of what's already in there, otherwise the world will explode. Not might - WILL.

Liking the updates/build threads from ste and 'Jumper 8-)
Excellent spot, speedingfine 8-)

Donkey's being wobbly, hopefully it's just aged suspension bushes hammered into dust by the potholes on the A2/M2/M20
The rain has also reminded me that I haven't looked at why it'd been popping and farting and just generally grumpy after a wash. It'll probably come up with ''k off' on the dash now

Ah the old 'my cable fell out the back of the speedo' trick to keep the mileage down, I get ya. ;)
