There's no shadow over this year, he dominated and is a worthy champion. It's a bit of a shame there was no over-the-lime razzamatazz about it, but I doubt he cares that much. Too busy banging Kelly Piquet and counting his money I imagine. C*nt. lol
The point is, if they spent more money on in season development last year, then how much of the work has benefited this season's car? Without that rule breach would they have been as dominant this season?
I agree he is a worthy champion, and it certainly isn't his fault, but it is still an issue. If I were the FIA, I would leave the 2022 WDC with MV, but disqualify RB from 2022 WCC. I think that's the only way the FIA come out of this with any integrity.
Won't happen of course, but it's what should happen IMO.

Oh and I've come to the conclusion that Le Clerc is actually not that great. He's quick, yes, but he buckles under pressure (has made umpteen mistakes this season, which you don't need when your team are highly likely to hobble a great chance) and he just lacks that ruthlessness that makes for a future WDC prospect.
If Merc can up their game than I genuinely think that Russell will be more likely to challenge Verstapppen over the next few years. Or, as an outside chance, Lando if McLaren can get themselves up there.
Don't rate Lando as highly as you, but generally agree that CL has had a poor season really. I'm not ready to write him off just yet, but he really needs a stellar season in 2023 to get back on track.

So Red bull did break the rules but as it was only a minor breach of less than £6m there will be a minor punishment.
Even the timing of it feels contrived and predictable.

The sensible response would be to dock their budget next year by that sum.

"This means the team exceeded the cap by less than 5%, or $7.25m. Both Red Bull and Aston Martin were found guilty of a procedural breach of the cap."
"A procedural breach is not an overspend, but rather a failure to fill in forms correctly."
Err, wot?
Do you mean Man Maths? Evonomics?

At least Red Bull actually produced a decent car as a result of it. Can’t imagine Stroll will be happy, cheating and still going backwards

>> Aston Martin are in 'Procedural Breach'.
>> Red Bull have committed a Procedural Breach and a Minor Financial Overspend (less than 5% of the Cost Cap), according to the FIA.
I expect a $500k fine and no sporting penalty for last, this or next year's seasons.

The FIA don't seem to be firing on all cylinders right now so its difficult to predict.
Isn't a fine the least suitable punishment for breaking a cost cap?

A fine for the amount they breached the budget by, payable out of next years budget. Job done.

If it's a $500k dollar fine and that's the precedent, if I'm the likes of Toto I'm thinking I now allow for $7.75m and increase my development budget by $7.25m. Makes a mockery of the whole thing really, but if them's the new rules then so be it.

They might still count the £15m expenditure as worth it, as from what I understand they gain an advantage for about three seasons by over spending on one.

It’s stoopid.

I liked the suggestion on The Race (on YouTube). Restrict their wind tunnel time by 10 or 20%. That's likely to have a much bigger impact.

£15m would be a major breach and as they say - penalties could involve removing championships.

A fine just means you can buy a championship, even if the fine is $100m, like McLaren got for spygate. The timing and delays of the FIA announcement just stink of political shenanigans and I don't like that.
However, I'm willing to swap all the potential fines, restrictions and penalties for Marko and Horner to get kicked in the balls by every other team principal as long as it's televised.

Mclaren were also excluded from the 2007 constructors championship, so even when Lewis came second in the wdc with them they couldn’t score any constructors points, therefore no prize money
As for your suggestion, I’d happily pay to have a go. In my steel toe cap work boots. With a spike welded onto it

Yeah, sorry to clarify I mean the ~£7.5m they may have over spent in the 2021 season (#speculation), plus the £7.5m fine they'd receive as a fine out of next years budget (if we we're to follow what you're proposing)
