Yeah I was thinking that. Missing bits of his diffuser etc and a minute down after the first lap but up until driving slowly to save the car on the penultimate lap he was way less than a minute behind P1. Could have been an easy P2 today.

Maybe he just needed to be so far out of contention that it gave him the space to truly connect with the car. He was absolutely flying

Fingers crossed this is the turning point for Mercedes though. Would be good to have 3 teams contesting. Not least as Ferrari seem to be having issues with eother car and/or drivers
