V8Granite wrote: Tue Oct 06, 2026 10:19 am Where do you draw the line ?

Your spending power is far greater than many others, can they have some more as you have multiple cars and a very nice house ?

I don't care how you earnt it, I want it as I think it's too much.

This is down to a personal belief but I want everyone to do well. If you have a million pounds a year as Daddy did well and gave you a trust fund, you're paying £20 for a coffee with gold sprinkles, you pay your 50k tax bill on your Bentayga and your loafers cost more than my car. Aslong as you are spending in the UK then I'm benefitting.

If he was running Victorian sweatshops illegally then that's not ok, but that's not the case.

I don't understand how the Starbucks case happened where they paid virtually no corporate tax but they also employ 5300 people, a net positive, if they aren't doing anything illegal then what can you do?

Dave!
The line is that although I do have a nice house and two cars, I do not have the means to buy influence across global, or (ignoring the News Shopper that I doubt anyone reads) local platforms in a way that broadcasts and amplifies my views out of all proportion.

I cannot buy/launch a media outlet and hire loudmouth agitators to push my agenda, or fund/create groups to further my own views.
Agree again with all of that.

It still doesn't explain where we could stop government influence though. For example a new leisure centre is being built not far from me, the old one needed a million put into the roof, 3.5 million to fix it all. Turns out the roof is a 150k job and the land for the new leisure centre is owned by a councillors sister. Can we start with them first ?

Dave!
If there's suspicion or evidence of corruption, I'd expect the police to get involved.

Doesn't matter if the undue influence is internal or external, it is still wrong.

Apparently Trump Mobile has been hacked. For the second time apparently. Shame.

The group seemed to detail internal Trump Mobile communications in the statement, saying Trump Mobile was informed of the breach and acknowledged it did not have a team to handle the hack.

3,615 customers paying $47 each per month isn’t going to go far - that’s only about $2m of revenue per year to pay for renting the service from the actual provider/marketing/staff/premises/IT/tax/rates/etc, etc…

Though It’s probably just Don Jr and Eric in a borrowed corner of some whitehouse outbuilding frantically typing emails on their gold phones!

It's classic trump though, a "luxury" service that's anything but and never actually makes any money.

The man couldn't make a profit running a casino

And now they are going to live stream an execution. Everything they do, it’s all about the performative cruelty.

And then I had to read this twice to make sure it wasn’t The Onion:

Livestreamed? "Not to everyone" apparently, but still. That being said, comes to something where he's probably glad he's not getting a botched injection

Yeah, as the article states (fort those who didn't read it) they've had issues with Christian Nationalists trying to wedge religion into politics there for a while, and the local Satanists have been having a right laugh showing them exactly what happens when you try to do that.

It's fucking hilarious.

it truly is tricky working out which dystopia they're heading for. With AI, is it Cyberpunk 2077, or with the constant racism and political violence, is it FarCry 5?

Honestly, at this stage, Iran could blow up the white house and I think everyone else in the world (and a lot of America) would just go "Oh, really? I was looking at this lovely chaffinch, I missed it.Anyway, moving on..."

The only other countries to have public executions are Iran and Afghanistan… 🤨

Well, yeah, Trump wants to LARP as an authoritarian because he always wanted a big strong man to control him, and he doesn't know how to express that.

"The BBC has asked the Pentagon and US Army if the rules restricting who can watch will be waived and what safeguards will be in place to stop young people from watching the stream."

Perfect opportunity to livestream executions on PornHub.
