Escape from new York.
Can't believe it's taken me this long to watch it. What a great 80s film.

The Lego Movie 2 is great, funny for the grown ups and littlies too. Be warned, they have made every effort to top Everything is Awesome in the earworm stakes.
what we do in the shadows is as funny as everyone else has already said. Free on Prime ATM.
a simple favour I expected nothing as the Mrs chose this one but I ended up quite enjoying it with enough application of alcohol.
How to train your dragon 3 a bit of a let down for me, story by the numbers and even the animation didn't seem to quite have the spark the last two had. Or maybe animation fans have just been spoiled by Incredibles 2 and Spiderverse in the last 12months.

First Man - Must say that I’m not a fan of all the added drama and bullshit Hollywood effects - space and all those missions in the 60’s were dramatic enough, that said the actual Apollo 11 bit was excellent. I’ll give it a 6 also because of the crap classic colour shading and analogue film artefacts they gave it - might as well go full hog and make it black and white...
If anyone has VR I do highly recommend the Apollo 11 Experience for it.

Widows looked great in the trailers but underwhelming and too long

The Long Dumb Road
One of those films that you don't resent watching but won't watch again. Fairly typical rites-of-passage-for-the-lad fare and Jason Mantzoukas plays Jason Mantzoukas, which I have to admit is not a bad thing as I like / liked him in everything I've seen him in - Parks And Rec, Brooklyn Nine Nine, The House, etc.
Don't avoid it if it's on, don't go out of your way to hunt it down.

I didn’t know who Jason Mantzoukas was, then I looked through his list of films and programmes and realised why.

Re: The Movie Thread
A Star Is Born - I enjoyed this a whole lot more than I thought I would - Rocket Racoon and Lady Gaga were both pretty damned good and the musical scenes were incredibly well done. Not a bad directorial debut either.
Bohemian Rhapsody - Haterz gonna hate but I really enjoyed it, as did the whole family. The kids both enjoy a bit of Queen for as long as they’ve been listening to music and were pretty captivated by it all.
I know there’s probably a whole other movie they could have made about him, but as much as I thought i wanted to see that one, I don’t think i do now. I wonder if they’ll be tempted to make a part two now its taken so much money as I think there’s easily enough stories and material left to make something just as good.

Re: The Movie Thread
yep!
All his films seem to be in that “about 6/10 on IMDb” zone reserved for shit but still reasonable budget films you’ve heard of, aka “the Seth Rogen zone”.

A Star is Born was excellent. While watching Bohemian Rhapsody I was just thinking that his attempt to replicate his teeth looked terrible.Ascender wrote: Sun Feb 17, 2019 12:29 pm A Star Is Born - I enjoyed this a whole lot more than I thought I would - Rocket Racoon and Lady Gaga were both pretty damned good and the musical scenes were incredibly well done. The Ballad of Buster Scruggs
6 short stories in one film that manages to show the various sides of the Coen Brothers. Not their best movie, but so beautifully made: the scenery, the detail. They take their time with this movie and it can feel quite slow at times. Dialogue is sparse but the characters still have so much depth. I really enjoyed it, MrsREV less so. It’s more of a Brother Where Art Thou than Fargo.

We turned the first part off after about 15mins and never went back to it. I know it's well thought of but it just felt like time we could spend watching something more enjoyable.

The first part is probably my least favourite one. All Gold Canyon, Meal Ticket and The Gal Who Got Rattled were my favourite parts.duncs500 wrote: Sun Feb 17, 2019 3:37 pm We turned the first part off after about 15mins and never went back to it. Re: The Movie Thread
just finished this, I think I agree with most of that, one criticism could be that I’m trying to be overly random it ended up with a predictable formula for each story. I still enjoyed it though.NotoriousREV wrote: Sun Feb 17, 2019 2:42 pm The Ballad of Buster Scruggs
