For those interested, Friday's Essential Mix was Glastonbury themed.

I thought it was always supposed to be alternative but it’s become more and more mainstream. This year’s line-up seems to be bands popular 15-30 years ago doing their greatest hits.Simon wrote: Sun Jun 30, 2019 10:28 am Is it me or has Glastonbury gone more and more away from mainstream music, on all their stages? Re: Glastonbury
From who you guys have mentioned so far, it couldn't be any more mainstream, could it.

Re: Glastonbury
I guess I'm just completely out of touch with music nowadays..

You Sir, are bloody brilliant.
My wife's laughing her head of at that one
Re: Glastonbury
I’d throw a fuck up Bananarama.
Re: Glastonbury
The Cure were awesome
No pomp, no poncing and no dancers, just musicians making it look easy .
Robert Smith looked like he was amazed people stuck around for the whole set

Yep, The Cure were awesome, much better than I expected them to be. I’ve seen them live a couple of times but a long time ago (Wish era,
‘92, was probably the last time!)
I turned on iPlayer to watch top gear but watched this instead.

Re: Glastonbury
I saw The Cure at Finsbury Park (Xfm festival in 1993) and it felt like they were doing a greatest hits set then. Haven't watched the Glasto set and I will, of course, but it doesn't really make Glasto any less mainstream/dad rock, does it?
Re: Glastonbury
Glastonbury has been really mainstream for as long as I remember. They maybe escape that perception for a lot of people because they don't use as much (if any) corporate sponsorship, also it's so big that they can have small stages that'll be playing interesting stuff while the big stages keep it middle of the road.
My mate saw H09909 play in a bus either last year or the year before.
The big festivals cost too much to organise to risk people not turning up because they don't recognise the people playing.

Re: Glastonbury
I know it's been mainstream for a long time but it's becoming even more bland. The Cure first headlined Glasto in 1986, FFS - 33 years ago! The Killers had headlined before as well, in 2007.
Re: Glastonbury
Aye, it's one the things that puts me off festivals these day. Don't want to spend a grand going away for a couple of days to see the same 10 bands I saw there last year.
Download is pretty bad for it, they're headliner list is usually pretty indistinguishable from older years.

Given the average age of those that go these days, I’m assuming it had an Edinburgh Woollen Mill outlet.
