if you are asking me, then no, I joined twitter, tweeted a couple of times and that was enough. I did not even know DB was on Radio 5. I have no interest in the Royal Family, last thing I was aware of was Prince Philip crashing a car and Harry and Meghan getting married as even I couldn't miss that but the pregnancy stories just passed me by. Maybe I had exciting things going on at the time, I have no idea but their lives are unlikely to intersect or affect mine.

Pretty much sums up the internet in 2019... 😂

I don’t think DB wrote that tweet for its racist connotations and must not have seen anything wrong with it. Especially considering the judge/jury/executioner frenzy that anything controversial generates on social media , plus he must’ve known the BBC wouldn’t tolerate anything even remotely non-PC - (not that this is that remote)

*waves* I don't take much interest in royal stuff. Megan Markel's ethnicity wasn't a question I'd ever had cause to ask myself (although, until yesterday, I would have struggled to tell you her name or pick her out of a line up). I knew she'd been in "Suits", but that's my knowledge on the subject spent.

That said, if I was posting monkey pictures to half a million twitter followers, I probably would have checked

Are either of your kids black or mixed race? If not, you’re probably fine.
His best friend is mixed race and I call him monkey 3, no-one has mentioned or raised an eyebrow.

Try another 499,999 people that you don't know, and then report back. Seriously - you do see that the two situations are not entirely analagous, don't you

That.

At school our football team comprised of Curry, Chimpy and Panda - you can probably imagine their ethnicities. Of course no harm meant in it and we still call the latter two by those names when we get together. I imagine you’d probably be suspended for shouting those nicknames during a school match these days. Know your audience.
How about not having a sig at all?

Put it this way - would you walk into a pub where you're all meeting up in a biggish town and shout to the black guy OI OI CHIMPY!!! I think not.

My brother had a mate who was mixed race, and up in the Far Far North, he was called Nigger. No, I'm not joking. There were literally no black families up there to point out the problem with that.

The near brawl it caused when they went to a wedding in Inverness (which is barely classifiable as civilisation at the best of times) when one of them shouted ALRIGHT NIGGER across a bar rather re-educated them to the impact of language in The Real World Where Actual People Live.

And yes, I really rather wish that wasn't a true story, but they're from the town that had gollywogs in the town gala more than a decade after that so draw your own conclusions.

What’s that place in the north east where they hanged a suspected spy that was probably a chimpanzee? Grimsby?

Hartlepool, it's a corruption over the years. It's widely believed that they hung a young member of the French crew and as the young members of our fleet were known as powder monkeys it came from there. The people of Hartlepool do like to play on it though.

I completely get that but instantly thinking the worst possible meaning of everything is a really pathetic way to live.

I blame Facebook and the French, oh and any funny foreign tucker, that should cover pretty much everyone I think ?

It’s all going to be ok because I read on the front cover of the Daily Star that Stan Collymore has come out as backing Danny.

I have now seen it but only to see what the fuss was about. What exactly is the problem here? I see Neil has also posted to say he was pretty oblivious but I see nobody has pulled him up or questioned him??

its not about what you know you muppet. The fact is that DB was well aware of the Royal birth, hence the title of his picture - that you have seen.

I hadn't realised Meghan Markle was mixed race until I saw her mother at the wedding and I'm one of those old fashioned people who reads a newspaper most days.

As to Danny Baker's silly Twitter post, I'm surprised he didn't go down the usual celebrity route and say his account had been hacked ;)

When I first saw the tweet I just thought it was his usual sort of dig at royals and the upper class... I mean its not even a dig at the baby, its all about the adults in the picture. If it wasn't for already knowing the backstory, I genuinely wouldn't have linked it to being racist at all - I guess my mind's not wired up to think like that.

So I don't find anything dubious in his story that he posted it and didn't think of the connotations. Which is maybe very naive at best for someone in his position in today's society. But is there anything else in his career which has made us think he's a bit of a closet racist and has been playing the long game so he can suddenly do something like this?

He's been monumentally stupid and apologised, but that's not good enough these days I guess.
Cheers,

Mike.

Well, I guess if a bunch of middle aged white blokes don’t think it’s racist, it mustn’t be racist.

I don’t think he realised the racist connotation of the image when he posted it. I don’t think he’s a racist, I think he made a stupid mistake.

But yes, that image with that caption absolutely is a racist thing to post under the circumstances.
Cheers,

Mike.

Being monumentally stupid is certainly not good enough these days. If in doubt, just keep your gob shut! It really isn't like he needed the exposure.

Anyway - all done here. Next outrage please
