Not really. I'm probably about as far from that description as it's possible to be. I've not lashed out at you, I stated something that I thought was fact as I'm privvy to information that tells me it will be fact. Also In the schools I've been involved with it's been done for years and I genuinely forget that in deprived areas they do things poorly and need to be told they have to do something before they do things that are just good practice.


Wheeling a special needs assistant out as some kind of proof shows how little understanding you have of the education system. You may as well have said your Mum is a dinner-lady and she reckons they don't have to do them.

For the record I worked with the Department of Education for 8 years.
I've been a school governor for 6 years.
I have responsibility at a county level for implementing government ediucation policy

My current work role sees me liasing with the secretary of state (admittedly for health, not education at the moment) on policy issues.

Directed at Dave I know, but this sounds a bit stupid to be honest. My wife has been the admin to the special needs coordinator at a local school since October, and the distance between the job spec she was sold on and the actual job she is doing can be measured in light years. Because she likes a challenge and recognises the wider need, she's stuck at it. Ergo, she is now thoroughly immersed in the education system and it's utterly shit way of working. They've organised a drill recently it would seem and the special needs aspects of it were carefully considered because some of the kids are likely to just take flight if it's not controlled properly. All special needs-related staff are impacted by this and (at my wife's school at least) numerous other aspects of school life. On days when the other ladies in the front office are sick my wife suddenly finds herself in the position of having to call parents to follow-up on children reported not present by the teachers.

And if Oxfordshire is now classed as a deprived area I'd like to know what a properly poor region looks like.
