I'm saving fuel by staying home and playing Gran Turismo instead. You're welcome world. Coincidentally this same behaviour prevents me from getting laid very often so no kids either. Again, you're welcome.

I do have actual concerns over the amount of food packaging that isn't recyclable though, that should be flat out banned by now IMO.

I've re-read this thread a few times in increasingly levels of lol at the self-congratulation going on

Not sure any one is congratulating themselves. A question was asked, people (well, forumites) answered.

Could we all do more? Absolutely. However as Gavin also points out: industry needs to do far more. Rather than trying to fix the consequence (e.g. dealing with plastic waste/single use items/goods built to fail a day after the warranty expires) the spineless jellyfish in power should start focusing on how we can avoid many of the issues in the first place.

Sorry Alex it wasn't meant to target anyone specifically - it's just amusing to read how people think "I'm helping! [Ralph Wiggum] when really, they're doing fuck all.

I know I'm doing fuck all apart from trying not to be too wasteful, but the "I buy from the local butchers but do 2 million air miles a year" is pretty funny.

Talk about putting an Elastoplast on a broken leg.

I’ve started getting coffee from the self serve, rather than get the barista to make it at work because I don’t have to have a lid because, you know, plastics and all...

Does that count???

Fatherhood has made you soft, or your login has been hijacked :D

Wasn't feeling targeted, but wanted to make the point. On a serious note I do worry. Was reading earlier about the collapse of insect populations and the mind boggles. Short of not pouring burning diesel down the drain and acid into the rivers, it is difficult to work out what meaningful changes (not that I've done either of the above) you can do to make a difference.

This is the wrong attitude to have though. It’s instilling the small stuff into people, especially young people so that eventually the bigger stuff is looked at in more detail as they age.

It’s this attitude with crime prevention which I think is why we are so funked there aswell. I don’t think anyone woke up one morning and decided to rob a bank, it’s someone who started small and ended up progressing to it. The small stuff is not taken seriously.

This current litter picking drive is doing more good than the LEZ for example as kids are thinking about this stuff logically.

Yeah fair enough mate, tbh I was just stirring for a response because I was bored :) I minimise waste wherever I can - I realise it's pissing in the wind but I feel better about it, kind of like always cutting up six-pack plastic carriers because wildlife and stuff.

Plastic consumption is totally out of control here. The uneducateds get all hot under their dirty stinking collars if they don't get a bag with pretty much every item they buy in the shops, and the wastage of the delivery food industry is atrocious in terms of the crap they give you that normally goes straight in the bin. I always ask them to send me JUST THE FOOD AND A CONTAINER TO PUT IT IN but - well, you've lived here.

It’s ok, I’ve got a bee in my bonnet about this and electric cars !

I think the Ski Dome itself shutting down could
Pretty much put the Middle East in top spot for changing their ways haha

I've always recycled as best I can, but I think in the last couple of years I've really started to ramp up my efforts on it. Every time I buy some food or a takeaway I look at each of the bits of packaging and think if we can put it in the recycling bin. The 'plastics and tins' wheelie bin that the council provide is the same size as the normal 'black bag' wheelie bin and we're now getting close to filling it every fortnight. Probably helped by the fact the we've a butterfly lid kitchen bin with a normal waste section at the front and a recycling bit at the back, so 'can this be recycled' is at the front of your mind every time you go to throw something away.

Recycling here can be filed under "erm yeah whatever mate". We have recycling bins - rather, we have a recycling bin. Into which you can throw plastic, paper and aluminium. Yeah - like that's not going in the same tip as the other shit.

Which one have you got? We want one too, but most seem to be either impractical or stupidly expensive.

This one. File it under the later, although we didn't pay that for it.

Other makes are available of course, but our decision was dictated by the space that it had to go in to. The wider the bin, the less we could open the kitchen cupboard door that was 'next' to it.

I get a bag whenever I go shopping as I need said bag to line my rubbish bin. Granted I’ve got a cupboard with about 15 spare bags in but they’ll all get used eventually. The “trash bags” you can buy from the supermarket are too thin and rip.
How about not having a sig at all?
