Admittedly when I saw the R8 one of the 2 year qualified lawyers bought out there on account of the err, preferential tax rates it did tempt me for a moment. Cars over a certain threshold in HK by contrast attract 100+ % tax :( Top tax rate of 15% would help with that though!
My eyes were dry when a mate in Honkers was bitching about paying UK tax on his income whilst at a US firm.

HK is weird though from what I’ve heard from friends who live there. The middle class find it normal to live in a 1 bed flat with the entire family. As in Grandparents, married parents and their kids
Houses are definitely tiny out there. The pictures of the worst off are pretty upsetting. Nice bit of perspective for those complaining about housing in the UK:

No, a Brit. It was the UK branch he was employed by, so I’d assumed it was something to do with how long he was out there for.

I guess if it wasn't long term then he would still be liable. I'm also assuming he didn't work away from home without a nice pay bump 😂

If he can’t google between the station and the hotel, I don’t think he should stray far...

Too fookin right 😁 Anyway, ended up half cut at the hotel near work and changing into monkey suit for a late Uber to the bash. Initial question rendered useless 😂

Even by our standards that’s some tangent.

What if you end your night at the hotel bar.

I love a final nightcap in the hotel bar.

What if you're in a hotel bar drinking Singapore Slings with Mescal on the side and a beer chaser, while waiting for an important phone call?

Sing Slings eh?

How did they have the hotel landline number? You could have had them call your cellular telephone and leave the hotel and take a look around. So no - not approved.

Houses in HK are the most expensive in the world, mainly driven by people from mainland China coming down and buying all the properties. Couples have no choice but to live with their parents. Ten years ago, my parents bought a 600 sqft flat and the owner couldn't give it away, he offered to reduce the price to sweeten the deal. Now, good luck finding one for less than £500k.

Yeah I was told there was this weird thing where the older a flat was the more worthless it became? Then after about 20 years they just demolished them and built a new one as everyone wants to live in a new flat rather than refurbish?

Also is there no service charge? I think I heard it’s normal for all the amenities such as lifts to break down and no one will repair them unless the neighbours all pitch in but that rarely happens. And you can do crazy shit like just knock down a few walls in your flat and stick AC units on.
Doing that wouldn’t go down too well in London!

New/newer (less than 30 years old) flats have factor fees that everyone pay for security and maintenance. HK people prefer to live in brand new flats but the prices for those are even more crazy, a 600 sqft flat in a good area is close to a £1m.

How about if you're drinking in the hotel bar just long enough to find two high class hookers to take back to your penthouse suite to snort coke off various parts of their bodies?

I think "at the end of the session" is more appropriate given that it could be any time of day.
