Not much of a DIY type, but in order to participate I thought I'd report that a couple of chaps spent 2 days fitting flooring and laying carpets at ours this week. They worked so hard I felt the need to go for a couple of beers after they had finished.

My project starts next month and as a consequence I have to clear the whole ground floor (and some of the 1st floor) of the house (including the garage).

I didn’t fancy lugging big stuff like sofas and fridge into a van and paying for storage so I decided a new temp shed was the best route.

I had a few options, buy a cheap one, buy an expensive one to sell on after or build one from scratch. It’s only going to be used for about 3 months so obviously I went option 3.

6 hours start to finish - and around £300 or materials. 8x8x8ft.

Nope, a nice man with a lorry and a crane placed it on my driveway for free.

I guess I’m just odd on this one - for me, being able to move my stuff piecemeal over the next few weeks (sorting as I go) appeals far more that one stressful day packing up vans and then having to do the reverse to get it all back in one go.

Plus I can’t deny, I love building sheds - second only to building tree houses imo.

I'm with you on that.When I moved last year for a while it looked like I'd have to put my stuff into storage. So rather than hire a van and do a 'big bang' moving day, I took car loads down to a storage place near the office, so whenever I went into work I'd take another load of stuff. Much less stressful.

Pay a moving company to pack and move everything. Trust me on this. Buy good tyres, good shoes, a good mattress, and the full removals service.

100% agree for proper moves, i’d never do that myself. But we’re renting another house that’s fully furnished this time, so I only really need to move stuff out of the way of the builders.

Law of sod dictates that your temporary structure will be needed for 12 months. So stain and treat the wood now.

If you had built a marvellous fortress of greatness then you would only need it for a week, law of sod.

Things in the B household have gone severely off-brand since mini B was appointed to his current position...

Talking of sheds - I made a new door for my larger shed about 3yrs ago. Been tweaked since then and painted but essentially sat in the garage since mini merv arrived. When my parents were visiting last week tho my dad gave me a lift hanging it.



Just need to tidy up the frame and paint that now, and fit locks and door furniture, which I made a start on yesterday.
