PILON did indeed change this tax year I understand Rich - not sure what the new rules are. Thankfully the company squeezed most of them through before the change, so it was tax-free.

I've been under "consultation" a couple of times but never offered redundancy - both times wanted it. My other half's been in the same boat and again, not offered. I suspect in both cases, our time in service became a factor.

My brother must have got the best deal in history though. He worked for a small pensions company that belonged to a very wealthy individual. He decided to get out of the industry and closed the business. He pulled as many strings as he could to get every one of his employees into another job and paid them all full redundancy - 18 months full pay

My bro took a year out and studied his ass off and fast tracked a load of new qualifications

Has happened to me a few times and has ranged from:

- turning up to work in the morning on pay day and nobody had been paid. 'BACS issue' was cited. Lunch time came and a few of us went out to grab food. We came back and the directors had baracaded themselves in the board room and the police were there to escort us one-by-one to our desks to collect any personal belongings. The company had ran out of money the month before apparently, had never paid any rent on the office space for the 6 months we'd been there. A month or so later received statutory pay of £700-odd quid for the month's work. Cheers.

- signing an agreement, handing in my laptop and phone and walking out of the office at the beginning of December. Getting paid until Jan when gardening leave kicked in for 3 more months, then getting 8 months salary paid as redundancy and then still getting paid my bonus in the April?! Early spring my wife had had enough of me so I went off cycling in Spain to give her some peace. I came back and decided it was daft to get a job in the summer so took the school holidays off with the kids. Finally went back to work in September and was still better off than if I'd worked all that time. Was fucking ace.

Sounds rubbish.

I think they’re for people with special needs.

How do you pronounce it? It sounds like it could be a bit of a donkey.

First time I was made redundant was a touch inconvenient. I was made redundant two weeks after my youngest was born. That promted a dash for a job, which got me into contracting, which required long commutes while sleep deprived.

I'm fairly certain that the stress of it all is what set of my Graves Disease.
