£735 tax and terrible MPG means you'll be paying a fair bit just to move around....not sure on engine reliability or if it's just internet heresay. I'm sure Mik owned one, so will be able to give pointers.
Ours used only a little oil - about 5l per year from memory - aka negligible. But yeah 23mpg for only 230bhp was shit - the biggest issue being that it was 23mpg if you drove it hard, or 23mpg if you pootled like a granny.
Lovely steering though.

Oof, forgot about the tax on those, ouch.
I retract my suggestion.

yep, i had an RX8. Like Mik says, it didn’t matter how you drive it - it did shit mpg. and wasn’t fast enough to justify the shit mpg.

The difference in car tax is 1000 miles, it’s never bothered me and considering g you were happy to pay an extra £500 a year on insurance then does it really matter ?
How many miles do you do a year as you seem to have a lot of problems related to leaving a car parked up and not run.
Dave!

...So you might as well buy that large capacity V8 that you've always liked the thought of?

Exactly, unless it’s purely a date thing where the same car is available before and after the tax cutoff then it’s a small part of the ownership.

Top band VED for mild hatchback performance is bonkers.
They drive nicely when behaving but yeah, had a rotary, fuel bills were painful even back then.
NC Sport Tech hard top, with BBR upgrade at some point, are current fave. Looking for cheap 2nd fun car really, not something that I need to pay for warranty every year.
Appreciate the thoughts/suggestions all the same

Can I interest
@Barry in a well prepared Z4 Coupe that I can't buy now because my car is getting repaired?
(like for reals, read the description - I was basically going to throw my expected insurance settlement at him)
