My learnings so far seem to be leading towards S2/3 SC Elises, though i still think i need to try a 190 S2 Exige - because i love the look so much (though Dans thoughts on the NA Toyota have flagged serious concerns on the engine).
Did you watch the Jayemm video? Hes done a few videos on Elise's recently

But of course you might find an open Exige V6 tempting: https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-detail ... 5059393120
Like.

Re the 190 S2 Exige, is it that hard to supercharge them? Could be some interesting aftermarket options.

What about a Lotus 7? And by that I obviously mean a Caterham.. I feel you’d get more bang for your buck whilst still getting a lightweight special vehicle

People do SC the 190, it used to be approx £6k for a Katana but that’s going back a bit. Probably more cost effective to just buy an S. Resale likely to be better on the factory car too.

Lotus did a factory kit. A lot of the existing supercharged cars have that kit. However...They need to be setup properly. @andybond had a load of issues when he bought his converted car.

The issue i had with the exige was that what i was going to spend on a charged exige bought me the charged S3 club racer which was 10 years newer with a fraction of the milage.

ETA - Have sent a smoke signal to Mr Bond...

I've enjoyed driving Caterhams on track type scenarios, but i still want something i can drive to work every now and then. so not really my thing.

It’s expensive and not worth it. Just buy a supercharged one.

For me, an S1 Elise Sport 135 and 111S probably appeal the most.

Otherwise, I rather liked the S3 Exige Maurice owns/owned.

Looks like a car magazine published a buyers guide back in Jan for the S1 Elise. Not sure if it will tell you anything new, but the bloke who wrote it may have driven a few over the years:

They're nowhere near as good to drive, the ABS is appalling unless you get the 4 channel setup and makes the brake pedal feel awful. The engine and box is really heavy and they don't feel anywhere near as responsive as an elise. Again its all relative, but your budget is good so get a good one.

Likewise if you're ever in the midlands you're very welcome to come and have a look round, i've usually got half a dozen or so different models in.

Today I have a V6 Exige, a 4 pot s2 exige, a honda S2. a honda S1, an s2 111s and a sport 160.

Cheeky bid on this @Rich B? If you get it cheap you'll have plenty of cash to freshen it up. :)
