Re: Cars buying vs leasing
I've had a few leases, but now have gone back to buying second hand.
I do have an irrational hate for the feeling of giving back a lease car, where you know it's got a few little grazes and whatnot. I don't think I've ever even been charged come inspection, and if I was when factored in to the overall running cost comparison it would probably be small fry. As I said, irrational, but when using the car, chucking stuff in and out of the boot, kids in the back, it's just extra stress from it not being my property.
Think I'll stick to owning for the next couple of years, but I didn't have any bad experiences from leasing as such.

Re: Cars buying vs leasing
That, and if you want to mess with it a bit - exhausts, intakes and such - that's not really something you can do with a lease car. Not without risking them finding out and saying "your car now, give us lots of money within the next month"
I can see the appeal of a lease car, but for a few hundred quid a month in personal finance, you get a much wider choice of cars that are brooooadly likely to be faaaairly reliable.
He says, jinxing it...

If you want to change car every 2-3 years, want something modern, arguably more reliable and don’t want to tinker with them yourself; then leasing should be considered. If you’re planning on keeping it longer or want to tune it then purchasing it makes sense.

Modifying a lease car and then having to suddenly pay it off to own it
Thought it was preposterous then remembered that idiot on YouTube who did that with a M3 iirc!

How about not having a sig at all?
Re: Cars buying vs leasing
Strictly speaking, you can't modify a car on PCP or HP either.

If a car is in stock how long do they normally take to turn up?
Re: Cars buying vs leasing
My sister's Octavia was ordered 20th august and is being delivered next week.
That suited her to arrange collection of her existing lease so could have been marginally quicker.

How long journeys do you want to do, and how bothered are you about performance? Not looked into costs but I bet a Dacia spring could be had for about the same as that Hyundai given how cheap they are, they just don’t go that far that quickly

The Brabus does actually look quite cool. I was unaware of those. Have you checked insurance prices ? That could be a limiting factor round your way.

Re: Cars buying vs leasing
I'm still just kicking ideas around and won't be doing anything about this until end of the year at the earliest. Also, in reality I wouldn't go for electric simply because I live in a first flor flat with zero off-street parking and CBA to drive around looking for somewhere to charge every time I go out. It's hard enough finding a regular parking space on my own street.
Re: Cars buying vs leasing
Jeez, I kinda want that. Would be a great second (well ok, third) car / wife's car for scooting around town in (I've kinda wanted an EV for that). We've got so used to sharing the one car now though that we can't really justify it.Rich B wrote: Mon Sep 16, 2024 8:23 am£376 a month really - though still fairly crazyGavster wrote: Mon Sep 16, 2024 7:51 am 0-60 in 3.7 for just over £250 per month![]()

I'm certainly better off owing a 2007 boxster v a new golf r estate on lease.
The actual funny thing is noone asked me about the expensive golf and focus on my scraggy old porsche.
Also, I don't want a new car that tells me what to go all the time - that would be very annoying while paying through the nose for the priv.
