Also have to give BMW something, after about a decade of fitting wing mirrors upside down, the new 5 series has them the right way up!

The rear door on the new M5 looks odd, the arch sticks out too much for it. They really needed to have made a new wider door skin for it.

same as the M3s these days - they really should have planned it better in an all new car.

Daft really, given that they know they’re going to be making an M version from the start, and the costs involved must be minimal compared to all the other r&d and specific parts they already have have to make for them

It’s an E39 M5 with a S1 Elise on the roof.
Dave!
Or to make it more relatable, I take my M3 CSL on a trip up to Scotland. Mik, Brian and Scott get in the passenger seats and we load the boot full of Buckfast. We then put Duncs Elise on the roof, with him sitting in it, along with a passenger seat full of Bucky and we still don't weigh more than the new M5. Probably.

Can I get off the roof and on to the road when we reach the Highlands please?

Hmm, why have they used the signature colour from the M3 Touring on it?

That rear door is all I can see on the new M5s. The terrible radar integration you can kinda miss from a distance but the rear door/arch just sticks out from 100 yards away.

Bit like going to a surgeon “Sir would you like an underbite or an overbite”
How about both…

People said the same about the M3 4-door and Touring. I think it's fine; I really hate rear doors that try to blend into rear arches and end up with odd shutlines.
Chris Harris posted a profile picture on Instagram which made it look very much like an updated E61 M5 Touring. I wonder if it will grow on people like the E60 5-series did?

Looks like a glitch in the over-processed images. Doesn't actually look like that at all.

That's weird, totally different side profile. Door wouldn't need to be totally blown out to work, just a slight roll on the last inch towards the arch would make the angle of the light softer and it would blend in well.

If the outer edge of the door were pushed out, it would make the car materially less easy to get out of in a confined space such as a car park without any benefit. They look fine in the real world, as the M3 demonstrates.

I don't think it would - the limit on width of door opening will be at the top of the panel where it meets the window line, or possibly just a touch lower in line with the door handle and that whole area sits flush with the rear 1/4 as it is so is fine. Hence a flare on the lower section wouldn't create an issue, but would 100% look less like they've cheaped out.
