Better to stick a WAP (I know, and I don't care I still use that term) on the end of the Cat6a point rather than a mesh. Just config the SSID with the same creds.

Only benefit of a mesh is it should do a proper hand-off when roamning, but I'd prefer the better performance myself

I was with a client in SW London the other day looking at his network (not my speciality, but my engineers were busy). I carried out a network scan for wi-fi signal quality and his house can 'see' over 200 devices outside of his property. I think the choice of whether you're being fried or not is no longer available, so embrace it!

I *think* most of the mesh stuff is performance equivalent for that these days, mostly because handoff is way, way better than it used to be back in the day when it was all a bit of a wild west.

That said, nothing is more accurate for handoff than manually selecting the right network for an area...

(minor aside - Getting my line re-rated on the 20th )

Our Ubquiti Unify AP gives amazing coverage over 3 floors and garden but seems to peak at 100mbs whilst the Virgin router will provide 300mbs albeit over half the area.

I suppose it depends on what you need.

What Unifi AP is it? You sure it's connected to the LAN port at 1gb and not 100mb?

AP-AC-Pro i never thought to check the port as 100mb wirelessly on 10+ devices all over the house and garden seemed impressive!

I'm pretty sure even early AC-Pro models will have 1GB ports - it's more likely that your cable is Cat 5 or lower (or compromised in some way) going to the WAP.

As Jim said, it'll be a 1gb port, but may not be hitting it....poor quality or damaged cable so can't negotiate higher possibly?

Just worth checking, as 10 devices sharing 100mb will be a big improvement if you move to 10 devices to 1gb!
